It's been ages since i used to read disney comics, so all of them are old...
1. Don Rosa 2. Jaime Diaz 3. Silvia Ziche 4. Romano Scarpa 5. Carl Barks
That's an interesting thread that you have made, whatever but why did you placed Carl Barks on the bottom "5"? Because you are not much of a Barks fan? I know that you like Don Rosa so much because I remember that I saw you on DCF where you have the username "don rosa is the best!" Well, I'm going to tell you that I was waiting for someone to create a thread like that and you finally you made it. I have seen many of artwork of the artists that I like and I can't make a top 5 list but instead of a normal list that lists artists is in order. Here is my list of my favorite artists: 1. Carl Barks. 2. Don Rosa. 3. Daan Jippes. 4. Vicar. 5. Marco Rota. 6. Romano Scarpa. 7. Floyd Gottfredson. 8. Paul Murry. 9. Dick Moores. 10. Jack Bradbury. 11. Harvey Eisenberg. 12. Gil Turner. 13. Carl Buettner. 14. Tom McKimson. 15. Al Hubbard. 16. Julio Antonio Ramos Poquí. 17. Ed van Schuijlenburg. 18. Sergi Cardó. 19. Wilma van den Bosch. 20. Bardon. 21. Josep Nebot. 22. Jordi Afonso. 23. Marga Querol Manzano. 24. Daniel Pérez.
Sorry if this list was too long but I don't want to cause you any troubles if some artists on the list are artists that you dislike.

At first glance, there's no artist I dislike here (though I would hardly rank Vicar that thigh on the list); the thing is, there's a third of them I don't even know. Harvey Eisenberg, Julio Antonio Ramos Poqui, Ed van Schuijlenburg, Sergi Cardó, Wilma van den Bosch, Bardon, Josep Nebot, Jordi Afonso, Marga Querol Manzano and Daniel Pérez are so many names that I've never heard before.

Well, you can check their pages on Inducks to learn some informations about them. I think it's strange to hear from you that you have not heard of Harvey Eisenberg before but he was one of the Western artists who worked on various american Disney stories but most of them were Chip 'n' Dale stories.

Oh, I see. Not many Chip and Dale stories were printed in France since the 80's, so I don't have many of them.
Besides, I was never a big Chip and Dale fan; not out of anything wrong with the comics themselves, but I, like some others, think Chip and Dale practically ruined the "Donald Duck" cartoon series by pretty much taking it over and installing an extremely repetitive formula centering on the fight between the chipmunks and Donald, which could work for a time but quickly becomes boring when you look at several cartoons in a row, and was especially jarring in comparison with the great variety of plots that the DD cartoons had had up until then.

So if you don't like them that much in the animated shorts then what about their other cartoon appearances like in Chip 'n Dale Rescue Rangers? Well, I wonder if you like them better in RR than in the animated shorts? Do you own only French magazines that contains CD stories or do you own some other magazines from some other countries? It's possible that you have not read too much Egmont or Dutch stories from the Forest Universe or from the other Non-Duck/Mouse Universes and that why you were not familiar with some of the artists from my favorite artists list.
1. Don Rosa 2. William Van Horn 3. Carl Barks 4. Marco Rota 5. Floyd Gottfredson
I grew up in the 90s, so as a child I was more exposed to comics made in that era than to the classics by Barks. The two artists who really stood out for me when I was growing up were Rosa and Van Horn. The first Rosa comic I have ever read was "His Majesty, McDuck". That story was just so much more engrossing than any other Disney comic I had read up to that point! The comic that made me a huge Van Horn fan is "The Hauntland Treasure", probably the most underrated Duck comic of all time. As for Barks, I had read only a few of his stories as a child, probably that's the reason most of his work will never be as special for me as Rosa's and Van Horn's comics. Last summer I decided to read every single Disney comic he has worked on in chronological order (before that endeavor I had only read about 40% of his Disney work). Sure, Barks had created DOZENS of masterpieces (and laid the foundations for other peple who came after him), but he had also written and drawn a huge number of comics that are either mediocre or downright terrible. A few words about Rota: he is a WONDERFUL artist, probably the best to ever draw Disney comics, but he is a pretty mediocre writer.
Caballero, I agree, "The Hauntland Treasure" is a very fine--and I really love the cover, too. It's not too terribly underrated on Inducks--it's in the top 1000, which is pretty rarefied company. It's rated fifth of the stories written and drawn by WVH. And I agree on Rota, too. Fabulous artist, not so fabulous writer. Most of the Rota stories I love are ones where he at least had collaboration on the writing, e.g. by Paul Halas (The Incredible Shrinking Duck, Rugged Island). The exceptions are both ghost stories: "The Halloween Huckster" and "The Nightmare Ship". It seems to me that Rota does know how to write him a good ghost story! "The Nightmare Ship" is one of the top three on my list of favorite duck stories by someone other than Barks or Rosa. Some days (especially in October) it's #1.
I do like Rescue Rangers, as I liked their few solo cartoons from the 50's; I have nothing against them whenever they aren't highjacking someone else's series. But when I want to watch a Donald Duck cartoon, I want to bloody see Donald Duck, not Chip'n'Dale fighting a random bully who happens to look like Donald Duck.
As for the stories I own, I mostly only own French books for the moment. A few American issues, a couple of Almanacco Topolinos, and that's it; to which I must add scans of other American issues gotten from pen acquaintances, and scans of Italian stories gotten on Paperpedia. Much to my regret (since I love whatever I have seen translated), I cannot read Dutch issues.
1. Carl Barks 2. Daan Jippes 3. Floyd Gottfredson 4. Al Taliaferro 5. Vicar
Honorable mentions: Pat Block, Ulrich Schröder, Mau Heymans, William van Horn, Jan Gulbransson, Carlos Mota, Mark de Jonge, Freddy Milton, Ben Verhagen, Jules Coenen, Volker Reiche, Gerben Valkema, Daniel Branca, Marco Rota, Cèsar Ferioli Pelaez, Kari Korhonen, Wanda Gattino, Michel Nadorp, Jordi Alfonso and Bas heymans.
A lot of Dutch artists as you can see. I grew up with the Dutch style and it's still my favorite.

Hoi Hidde! Welkom! Glad to see you come here. Tell your friends. We have a very small group of members here, and I hope we can get back all the regular DCF members, and some of the better McDrake posters, too, plus more Scandinavians, French and German, Italian, American and Canadian posters, as well. And maybe some from Brasil, and Indonesia, too. I hope we can get back Fernando Ventura and Arie Fachrisal, formerly of DCF. I just had a printing in Indonesia. I'd like to get a copy of it.
It's the principal Dutch Disney forum. It's where I first met Rob, and Hidde, and maybe some other members that I've forgotten right now. It's 9.5 years old by now, and replaced the old McDuck forum (2004-06). Ah, it has known better times.

Yes, McDrake has seen better days. There's hardly any posting there anymore. There's almost no new really good drawings there anymore, other than a few by Tim Artz and Hidde. Henrieke Goorhuis doesn't post drawings there anymore, and neither do I. McDuck was even better than McDrake. Ah, The Good Ol' Days!
I'll tell Tim and Henrieke about this forum. We had several more Dutch posters on DCF. I hope they'll join us here.

Interesting. I would not have ranked Barks, Van Horn and Jippes so high int he artists column, but a very interesting opinion nonetheless. Separating writers and artists was definitely a good idea. No Italian authors, though?
