So this might be old news but I figured I might as well make a megathread of sorts for all future releases. This thread will be dedicated to the new Blu-Ray collection succeeding the Diamond Edition line from Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment, titled "The Walt Disney Signature Collection".
What is this "Walt Disney Signature Collection" a few of you might possibly ask? Well, it's a new collection line for movies created by and inspired by Walt Disney. No more details have been given, and we only have one title announced so far, being Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.
Now, it's time for a bit of my personal speculation on future titles and what exactly this Signature Collection is. First and foremost, it seems Disney's going for a more uniform look. I have a feeling every title will have this white background with silver banner. It doesn't look awful, but it's a step down from previous releases. The fact that it's not shiny like most of the previous Diamond Edition titles also makes the collector in me a little sad. However, it seems on the upside it will be an all in one type of collection, with Blu-Ray, DVD, and Digital HD. And for those wondering, yes the Disney Movies Anywhere app and website work worldwide, so no need to fear of region locking. So it's nice to see that.
However, something else I noticed is how in images of early copies received, it seems that Disney hasn't put a "Limited Time Only" sticker or "Exclusively from the Vault" like with other Special Edition or Diamond Edition packs. I had a hunch this would happen given the Digital HD copy would make that practice obsolete. We know in Europe, Disney dropped the Vault system a while back, and it seems the US is going towards the same route. With this in mind, and the blurb we've gotten about this lineup being of the movies Walt himself worked on, I have a feeling this will be the ultimate Disney collection. What do I mean by that? I feel every single Disney animated film will be released under this Signature line. Or at least until the late 90s films of the Renaissance Era.
I might be wrong, but I'm trying to think of anything else it could be. It doesn't seem limited edition, nor selective with the films, as with the Diamond editions they said they'd have the best selling titles. And not only that, I feel it'd be a smarter business move for them too. But that's just me.
