I've been reading Fantagraphics' "Only a Poor Old Man" collection which includes "Back to the Klondike". On page 30, panel 3 Goldie says she used her money "to take care of the poor children who were left orphans by mining disasters". It looks to me like the dialogue has been lettered by the same editor who added "Good old Unca Scrooge!" to the very last panel of the story – but I've been unable to find any information about Goldie's dialogue being altered.
Even back when I read the story in Finnish as a kid I always thought Goldie's claim of supporting orphans seemed a bit odd – why give away ALL of one's money (even for such a good cause) so one has to live in poverty? Back then I just figured she was lying in order to get higher moral ground and maybe squeeze some sympathy from the old miser. But does anyone know if the dialogue was really altered and if so, what did Barks intend Goldie to say to Scrooge about her lost money?
