I'm excited and curious about this series! We have meteorite-monsters with their own power level and people trying to catching them. Sounds almost like a card game with space-pokemons.
Generally I prefer the monthly comics over the trades when it comes to IDW comics. The main reason is the white border around the comics that is way too small in the trades, making it hard to read stuff close to the spine. I just get irritated trying to read the trades.
I haven't seen any trade for Donald Quest announced yet. But they might do a hardcover book instead of a TPB like they did for The Search for the Zodiac Stone (supposed to come out in September, but still not on sale). And the hardcovers might be better to read. The trades usually collect 3 issues, but they made a 4 issue trade collecting Scrooge's Last Adventure. Donald Quest is going to last for 5 issues though.
(that being said I just picked up the Disney Princess TPB from Joe Books, and that one is way better in many ways than the single issues)
I'm not sure what to think about Donald Quest just yet, but I'm going to give it a fair chance. Mickey Mouse's new issue is out tomorrow, too, with the first non-Mickey Mouse Shorts issue in four months. It'll be nice to have Mickey Mouse back. As to preferences in reading: I'm happy to read the issues as they are released, but I also like to collect the Timeless Tales hardcover collections (once they get back on track).
It *is* a card game with space-pokemons--there are even cards! I enjoyed the first issue significantly more than I thought I would. I really like the look of the alt-world. Visually so much fun! Nice dialoguing, too. And in this parallel fantasy universe, I'm willing to accept mixing Ducks and Mice--something that generally kills a story for me. I'm looking forward to how the story unfolds.
I buy the individual issues. If I end up liking the story, I will probably also buy the collected version as a gift, as I did with Scrooge's Last Adventure.
Now I've read the story too, and they actually have trading cards in it! (not a major part of the story, just a few panels for fun)
I thought it was a good start, mostly because of great artwork – but the story was fun too. The first part is drawn by Andrea Freccero, but according to the Previews catalogs the next parts will be drawn by Paolo De Lorenzi, Francesco D'Ippolito and Stefano Zanchi. But those Italians work great as a team so I wouldn't expect too much of a different art style in the next chapters.
I'm looking forward to next issue, and it's great to finally have something completely new from IDW, not available anywhere else!
"I'm looking forward to next issue, and it's great to finally have something completely new from IDW, not available anywhere else" Yes, "Donald Quest" has its premiere in the US, but it's still a comic produced for Panini.
I ordered the tradeback book from Amazon, and they told me the release data has been changed to September 6th... I guess that's because their monthly issue schedule has changed.
