Like you said, Casty did a Martin Mystere homage titled Topin Mystére e Orobomis la città che cammina, published in 2018 and supervised by MM creator Alfredo Castelli himself. Incidentally, they have similar names, as Casty is the pseudonym of Andrea Castellan.
Castelli has written some Disney stories himself, and is a scholar of popular literature and comics, including Disney comics.

I didn't mean that he wasn't alive, just that I'm not sure I've read a recent Disney story by him! Sorry for my bad wording.

Ah, ok, I had misunderstood what you said. Incidentally, I didn't know myself if he was alive or not and had to google the name to find out. According to Inducks, after one of his stories was published in December 2011 he stopped working for Disney for more than six years. His second-to-last story is Paperinik sul filo di lana from January 2018, while his last story so far is Topolino e le meraviglie della lavastoviglie from January 2019.
Related to the thread's title "you never know where a certain Duck will show up!", I am pointing out this image from the current issue of the weekly Italian puzzle magazine La settimana enigmistica:
The text says: "Huey, Dewey and Louie are sons of Della, Donald Duck's twin sister, which doesn't have any role in the comics".
Of course, it would be pointless to list all the mentions of Disney characters in that magazine, or more generally in Italian popular culture, however it is interesting to see a mention of the much more obscure character Della Duck.

The comics produced in the USA for Free Comic Book Day this year have been gradually sent out in bunches to comic book stores over the last couple of months. I just got a copy of "The Richard Fairgray Monster Showcase," by Richard Fairgray who has written spooky comics and graphic novels for middle-grade kids. The first paragraph of his self-introductory essay on the inside front cover:
For as long as I can remember, I've been writing stories about ghosts and vampires and strange creatures, all out-of-place in our ordinary world. When I was four, I wrote and illustrated a story about Donald Duck going into a haunted house alone because his friend Mickey hadn't shown up at the agreed upon time. In the attic, Donald met a ghost with no friends, so Donald shot himself so he could stay there with the ghost forever. I don't think it was just the copyright infringement that stopped that from being an international sensation, but it did make my kindergarten teachers very worried.
<end quotation>
This probably isn't technically a reference to Donald Duck of the comics; child-Richard may have just seen the cartoon "Lonesome Ghosts." No indication he ever read Disney Duck comics. But it is a reference to Donald Duck *in* an American comic, so I thought it worth noting. Besides, it's pretty dang funny.
By the way, the search engine on this forum sucks. I put "you never know" in the "the thread title contains" box and got...nothing. Then I put "a certain duck" in the "thread title contains" box and got an extensive list including dozens of thread titles containing "duck" without "certain." Aaargh. Probably would have worked better to google the thread title.

Try using the "with the phrase" box - somewhat worked for me...
