I recall reading somewhere that once Della is reunited with her kids, the next mystery to be solved on this show would be about the whereabouts of their father, but it was probably fan speculation rather than anything official.
I assume it comes from that time someone asked Angones who the triplets' father was, and he answered, "One familial mystery at a time, alright?". Not anything definite, but not quite unofficial fan-theorizing, either.
Yes, I know their father was mentioned in some early Taliaferro strips, but I'll just mentally blip over those references since there aren't too many of them.
The way I'd handle it if I wanted to put forward a "realistic", non-Family Ties-compliant explanation, is… I know it's not quite presented in those terms, but you could certainly mount an argument that what happened is that James, finding the young hellions absolutely unbearable, was the one to insist they be sent away to Donald's, and in the end he had Della choose between him and the triplets. Up to you what she chose and what happened next, but here's your bleak Taliaferro-compliant version of events.
(Which, by the way, this episode still otherwise misuses horribly. If there is one detail of the comics universe that the DT17 writer seem to fundamentally not get, it's the Junior Woodchucks' Guidebook.)
Could you say more about this? I'm curious. (Not watching season 2, but I'm still interested in how they represent the Guidebook.)

Guidebook aside, I'd urge you to reconsider that stance on Season 2, since it has overall been much better than Season 1 thus far. But anyway — the issue is the same as it was in Season 1: the DT17 are nerfing the Woodchucks something awful. They're presented as über-competent scouts, but nothing more; the Guidebook is a very complete scouting handbook, but that's all it is. In point of fact, in Whatever Happened…, the only use Della finds for it is try to extrapolate from its chapter on what to do if you're stuck on a desert island. I don't know about you, but I'm pretty sure the comics' Guidebook would have had complete information about Moonmite biology and how to build a rocketship. It's not a new issue — they started with the whole “the Guidebook doesn't contain info about the monster of the week” thing back in Terror of the Terra-Firmians. But, well, they haven't stopped.

Thanks, that's a clear distinction.
Yeah, I'm aware that folks think Season 2 is better than Season 1. And it's not impossible that I'll still buy and watch it some time. I just lost interest in the characters, since they are too different from the characters I know, and not different in good ways, to my mind.
I didn't watch DuckTales '87 while it was broadcast; in the 2000's I watched maybe a third of the episodes, ones well reviewed by Chris Barat and GeoX. Even in that series I didn't have much patience for annoying deviations from my mental Duckburg, such as Scrooge's sentimentality or Magica's Slavic accent. The episodes of DuckTales '87 I like and re-watch are episodes that are more in accord with the Duckworld in my head, like "The Duck in the Iron Mask" or "Sphinx for the Memories." Similarly, I'm not at all interested in the comics that take place in alternate Duck realities, with Donald as a superhero or a spy. So it's not surprising that I'm not all that interested in the new DuckTales, with unGyro and deeply-unfunny-to-me Louie and semi-immortal, former spy Scrooge.
Matilda, one character that honestly got much better is Donald. Not only they gave him way more center spotlight (He is in most episodes so far) but finally added some dynamic with Scrooge (which is very, very funny in my opinion) and so far making way better use of him then season 1.

Glad to hear it!
If I could watch DuckTales for free, I probably would. And if GeoX were reviewing the episodes of Season 2 as they come out, I might pony up for the season just to be part of the conversation. But I haven't been motivated enough to continue, so far. When I consider the possibility, I just think: Gyro--ick. Louie--ick. Goldie--yuck. Lena--drat.
I just keep hoping at some point I'll be able to buy "Legend of the Three Caballeros"! There's something I'd be happy to pay good money to own!
Ah! Belive it or not so far Gyro is another thing they sort of fixed... Or at least in the first episode of season 2 (which is so far his only apperance) he spends entire episode being happy and not angry and.. just excited about science (still a bit of a ego-maniac) Even the use of him felt more true to the comics with him jumping into McDuck Manor to showcase his new invention and then it's backfires and compilacate things... I wish THIS was Gyro we got from the start. He's updated but feels like logical "evolution" of the character, if you going update him at all. Jim Rash's voice - which was perfect for him in my opinion - realy shines here.
The "Three Caballeros" of DuckTales is also pretty good, even if at that point I got use to "Legend" reincarnation more, even if it's only minor diffrances. Notable their Panchiot is much less naive and zany.

Okay, just laid eyes on the latest DuckTales 2017 comic issue… fun story, but how stupid is it, when we know his beard his false, that Glomgold keeps it on when trying to disguise himself as Scrooge?!

A bit, it's not particularly the covers — it's part and parcel of 2017!Scrooge's characterization that he takes the "stunningly awesome and knowing it" aspect of Rosa's Scrooge and cranks it up to maximum.
...and now I'm totaly confused WHY it was omited in USA. They don't reveal annything about Lena that's a spoiler (They don't even refrence her shadow/Magica), just a brief hint that there is something sinister about her... which is something we learn in her debut episode. To be fair she is so incidental here, you could replace her with any of the nephews and it woudn't change the story in any way.
It refrence Mrs. Beakley being a spy... which is something we learn in the second episode, so it's not like it spoiles "Agent 22" episode...
I actualy wonder did they pulled this one simply for having (one or two funny bits from Launchpad aside ) kindoff boring/generic script, with very little going on. The only interesting thing is that Beakley mentioned her aunt... which I guess is the first time any other Vanderquack/Beakley family member is refrenced.
I feel like I was hyped about this one for nothing

May 7 - Treasure of the Found Lamp! May 9- The 87 Cent Solution! May 15 - Friendship Hates Magic! May 19 - The Dangerous Chemistry of Gandra Dee!
I can only asume Gandra Dee will be chemist now since Fenton is a scientist. Makes sence. The "Lamp" episode sugest Dijon and Arabian Night themed episode. The "Friendship Hates Magic" (which is a MLP refrence btw) may be return of Lena...
Finaly, some fans speculate "87 Cent solution" a refrence to Rockerduck debut... but we see.
Some new episodes titles and descriptions are out there :
-Treasure of the Found Lamp - As the boys track a missing artifact across Duckburg, Scrooge and Webby stall the warrior looking for it with a phony quest (acording to Disney wiki Ma Beagle, Gladstone and Selene will be featured in the episode)
- The 87 Cent Solution - The kids must stop Scrooge's unhealthy obsession with a few missing coins to keep him from becoming the next Glomgold. (The episode will feature Gyro and Fenton... AH! Finaly episode about Scrooge's obssesion with his money! Good. GOOOD!!!)
- The Golden Spear! - As Della rebuilds her ship, Penumbra becomes convinced Della’s planning an attack. Meanwhile, Donald's nap keeps getting interrupted by adventure.
- Nothing Can Stop Della Duck - Della Duck has faced every danger the moon has to offer to reunite with her family, but her greatest challenge is one she might not be able to fight her way out.
- Raiders of the Doomsday Vault - Dewey tries to prove himself by exploring a frozen fortress in search of a money tree seed, but Glomgold has kidnapped Scrooge in order to find it first
- Friendship Hates Magic - Stuck as a shadow, Lena tries to protect Webby from her suspicious new friend Violet during a supernatural sleepover. (This epsiode will feature a new character namded Violet Sabrewing)
-The Dangerous Chemistry of Gandra Dee! - With Huey and Webby's help, Fenton woos a punk rock scientist, only to uncover her dangerous plans for Gizmoduck. (Jameela Jamil will voice Gandra Dee.)
SO... Gandra will get a punk rock make-over? That's... interesting...
