I actually still have a copy of The "DuckTales the Movie: Treasure of the Lost Lamp" graphic novel in like-new condition. If the Jamie Diaz Studio artists are going to be represented at all in this series of books, this one is as good as any, although the "Armstrong" adaptation would be my second choice, as it was in the first issue of Gladstone's DuckTales and has a great Daan Jippes cover. The front cover of Disney's DuckTales movie book actually used the movie poster art, which I like better than the film itself.
But Disney preferred that we reprint "Lost Lamp" as the book's long story, especially after the discovery that most of the original 1990 color survived—so I got strongly behind it, liking how this would give us an all-Van Horn and Lustig book (as I noted in the other thread).
It runs contrary to the impression I had, expressed on another thread, that Disney as a company tended to employ a hands-off approach with licensed American publishers of their comics outside of exercising veto power over potentially objectionable content ...
Not only with the American publishers, it seems to be the case with all publishers.
... the above revelation suggests that they are also involved in planning and content decisions, which is very interesting.
Maybe this is an exception due to the fact that this volume concerns DuckTales, a brand of more direct interest for Disney.

I considered that possibility as well, but David Gerstein mentioned on another thread that Disney was also concerned about, or at least asking him to take into account, the ramifications of overexposure of particular artists' works in books released contemporaneously by IDW and FantaGraphics, suggesting that their level of interest in the comics is higher than conventional wisdom has always suggested. I'm not sure if this is a recent development, and too much corporate oversight, especially over something that has traditionally been allowed to follow its own rules, can be somewhat limiting, but the fact that the comics even cross Disney's minds is probably good news in the long run.
This must have happened during the last two days, I did an Amazon search for new Disney comics this weekend and it was still listed then. But I hope it’s just delayed to an unknown date.
The pre-release cover and the book description was recently changed, so it’s a bit weird that they cancel it right afterword. Originally it had the The City Under the Ice cover and a Scarpa story listed (check out the first post in this thread). I was looking forward to seeing that Scarpa story reprinted…
The Scarpa story probably has a chance of showing up at Fantagraphics at some point, as he is one of the more popular artists. Personally, the DuckTales stories I really wanted are all in book one, or were reprinted by Gemstone (although I missed the second book of the Disney Comics DuckTales serials).

I already own all the Van Horn DuckTales stories published by Gladstone, and was looking forward to Book 2 since I've never read any of the ones scheduled for that volume, so its cancellation is a disappointment to me. A lot of the stories in this now-cancelled book could (and hopefully will) show up in IDW's Disney Afternoon Giant, unless they are absolutely committed to sticking with Boom! material.

If they're sticking with BOOM material, then I'm not going to bother with Disney Afternoon Giant. I already skipped issue #2 today.
