The latest issue of Uncle Scrooge by New IDW featured, among other things, a story by Janet Gilbert, which is a good thing for several reasons; one being that Gilbert is a pretty charming writer most of the time; another being that since she already writes in English, this spares us the dry translations that are now par for the course when New IDW is running Italian material.
Its opening page, however, seems of interest to be because it stresses two very important things about New IDW.
The first is that as Inducks reveals, this coloring is new. In no previous printing of the story on record had the Money Bin been given its Italian red-and-blue coat of paint. So no offence to all of those who tried to explain it awaythat way, but their use of Italian color schemes is not a cost-saving measure, but a conscious choice. Not one I'm complaining about that choice per se, mind you! As I've said numerous times, I personally like the Italian color schemes better than the American ones in most cases, and the Bin is no exception.
The second thing, though, is that New IDW continues to be bizarrely sloppy in its approach. I'll give it a pass for using the same damn title font over and over, at least for now, because it is a pretty good font — though it is wearing a bit thin at this point. I will also overlook the fact that it's not even being consistent about its color schemes policy, in giving Scrooge's jacket a new jacket color-scheme rather than either the Classic IDW one or the Italian one However, how exactly did they go through the effort of repainting the Bin to fit the official line… and then leave the "coin" face completely blank?!? As I.N.D.U.C.K.S. shows, all the other foreign printings had gone through the minimal efforts of editing in the appropriate sign for their country's Disney comics tradition, whether "DD" or "$" or "€". But not the U.S.A., apparently.
