Some of you might have heard already, but I just read the sad news and felt I needed to share it here: Russi Taylor, famous voice actress for so many Disney (and countless non-Disney) projects, best known to most of us as the voice of Minnie Mouse and Huey, Dewey and Louie, passed away on Friday, aged 75.
Here you can see a short snippet of an early 2000s interview with her and her late husband Wayne Allwine, the voice of Mickey Mouse. Two very remarkable (and humble) people. May they both rest in peace.
I’ll always remember her contributions to Disney cartoons, The Simpsons and others. I still can imagine her voice while reading comics with Huey, Dewey, Louie, Webby and Minnie Mouse. While 1987 Webby isn’t popular anymore, Russi was the perfect voice for the part of a cute and sweet (and sometimes mischievous) little girl duckling.

I was absolutely shocked to hear this news. 75 really isn't that old. She will definitely be missed. She was the absolute definitive voice of Minnie Mouse and a legendary voice actress. She's gone too soon, it feels. I had hoped we would still have her for at least a couple more decades. She's irreplaceable, not only in her line of work, but in our hearts.
No matter what I say or do, know that Jesus loves you.
Acording to Facebook page "Disney Television Animation News" :
"Russi's legacy will continue in Mickey And The Roadster Racers Season 3, Mickey Mouse Shorts Season 6, Minnie & Mickey's X-Mas Parade At Disneyland, The Simpsons Season 31 & Mickey And Minnie's Runaway Rail!" (the last one is a upcomming Disneyland ride which will use animation with Mickey and Minnie in their current cartoon reincarnation)
...so at least her fans will have more then one chance to listen to her preformance again

Back on topic: I agree with what Joe Torcivia says on his blog, and what Deb says above. When I read the comics, I don't usually imagine the characters' voices, but when I do, I also "hear" Huey, Dewey and Louie speaking in the voices she gave them in DT'87. As Joe writes, she was able to give them voices that were similar to Donald's but understandable, voices easily capable of speaking the complex lines they are often given in the comics. Like Joe, I don't "hear" comics-Donald speaking in the unintelligible Nash or Anselmo voices, but I can "hear" comics-HDL speaking in the Taylor voices.

I wholeheartedly agree. Russi Taylor's HD&L will forever be the "definite" version of these characters' voices for me (she once mentioned she used a different pitch for each nephew to distinguish them from one another, although I never noticed that). I greatly dislike the practice of giving the nephews almost Donald-like-but-perhaps-slightly-higher voices performed by the same actor doing Donald's own voice (Nash or Anselmo), as we saw in the classic cartoons and the Mickey Mouse Works/House of Mouse shorts, and of course no one believes the adult male voices of HD&L on DuckTales '17 will ever be heard in any other context. I also cannot imagine anyone else as Minnie's voice.
While I didn't grow up with her works since I usually watched the shows where she worked in Portuguese, I knew her take on Huey Dewey and Louie and Webby, when I started switching the languages on my Ducktales movie out of curiosity, and her voice, along with Alan Young's, stood out the most in my memory. The news of her passing took me by surprise because I wasn't expecting someone with such an active career to go so suddenly. I may not be as familiar with her legacy as are the American fans, but I'm aware of her vast career in animations in and out of Disney, and her importance for contless shows and countless fans, whow her memory will last with for a long time.
