Correct code for Mickey Mouse: The Ultimate History 40th Anniversary Edition: AUG201607
For those that couldn't afford the expensive 1st edition ($200 SRP, now at $100 on Amazon), I can highly recommend this book! From the Amazon description: "The 40 series presents new editions of some of the stars of our program―now more compact, friendly in price, and still realized with the same commitment to impeccable production." The size for the new edition is 6.1 x 8.5 inches vs. 12.5 x 3 x 18 inches for the original book, but it doesn't sound like any content will be cut.
This one is a story for the ages. An interesting footnote in Disney Comics history for sure.
In April 2018, IDW released a solicit for Big Hero 6 #1 for release in July of that year. Solicits for issues 2 and 3 were subsequently released in the following months. After countless delays and uncertainty of whether or not it was still coming, the first issue was finally released in November 2019, a whole year and a half later. And then the countless delays continued for the other two issues.
According to this article published around the time of the first issue's release, there was some type of internal conflict between the writer of the comic and either Disney or IDW which resulted in many script changes. This would explain issue #1's long delay and why #2 and #3 were delayed further as that writer has since left the comic.
It is now August 2020, over two years after the series was originally supposed to launch and with only one issue under it's name, and issue #2 has been fully removed from the Diamond catalog, suggesting it was cancelled. At the time I post this, issue #3's solicit is still up but it is safe to say that this series is cancelled for good.
The ongoing pandemic may have played a factor in the final cancellation but that obviously wasn't the sole cause. It doesn't seem like IDW was eager to simply find a new writer to keep the comic going for whatever reason or else we would've seen these issues be released a long time ago. It wouldn't surprise me if work on issue #2 never started beyond a rough draft of the story and the cover art they had when they solicited it two years ago. The television series the comic is based on is currently on hiatus though a new season is supposedly in production (or had been before the pandemic started).
Seems to be a new line, reprinting the old Disney Afternoon comics from back in the day.
Well, that's interesting! Am I right that the Darkwing "Just Us Justice" has been reprinted, but that a bunch of the other comics from the Disney Adventures magazine have not? I think there may be a bunch of material in this series that I've never seen!

Okay, this is bizarre. Never thought I'd see the day when Fantagraphics would reprint actual Disney Afternoon-based comic book stories in book form.
Here's hoping they do a book of the Gargoyles comics that ran in Disney Adventures.
The Disney books must be doing well enough for Fantagraphics for them to expand into “Disney Adventures” material. Honestly, is any of this material held in as high a regard as Barks, Gottfredson, Scarpa or Rosa? Disney Adventures seems like a strange fit for an art house publisher like Fantagraphics. But times change and what was once regarded as throw-away material becomes highly regarded, I suppose.

I remember Kim Thompson once saying that Fantagraphics would never collect the Garfield comic strip in book form. But after this, I suppose anything's possible.

Justice Ducks and Legend of the Chaos God have never been reprinted in the US since their original releases and it looks like the Goofy Movie adaptation is new to US as well.

They certainly aren't in as high regard as more well known Disney comics but I'm sure there are many who hold nostalgia for them as well as being nice collections for fans of the shows.
If they ever do a “Complete Garfield” I’d buy it. 🙂
Technically, the paperback Garfield books that have been releasing for decades now are collecting the entire strip as far as I know. They just aren't all available in hardcover unfortunately but the larger three pack volumes seemed like a decent way to collect them.

Of course, but regular paperbacks is a different thing than big hardcover books with (usually) special features and behind-the-scenes articles. Plus, one nice feature of the "Garfield Complete Works" books is that the old daily strips are printed in black-and-white as originally intended (they were all colored back when the paperbacks switched to a larger format). That said, the "Complete Works" books seem to be a bit barebones in the special feature department.
Oh boy, did I derail this thread. Perhaps we should curtail discussion about everyone’s favorite lasagna-eating, pipe-smoking comic strip cat in this discussion and stick with Disney comics.
