Some forum types support this and I was just wondering if Proboards does so too. Since we're such an international community where national background often really matters in terms of what you're basing yourself on, I thought it might be a handy marker.
Glad to be on Proboards, by the way. Of all the forum types I've been on, this is the best experience, since there's now an Edit window (in fact, you can go back and edit your posts seemingly forever, which is great) and the ability to like other people's posts.
I do think it would be handy to know where our regular posters come from. Suppose we're discussing forest stories or Italian stories: I might approach a fellow Dutchman in a very different way than an American, because they're familiar with very different (types of) stories. I thought it might be a handy identity marker, just like the little gender thing.
Of course, there are also cases like Rob -- and I wouldn't know what to do with that at the moment. Assuming it's at all possible, of course,

Ha!Ha! On DCF I got a new flag in each country, so I had the Dutch, Danish, German, US and Canadian flags each year, and sometimes the Norwegian, Swedish and Belgian as well. But, some fora just let you choose your own. Then, I guess I'd just alternate between The Canadian, USA and Dutch flags. The problem with the latter system is that some people just pick random or "controversial" flags for jokes (such as North Korean, Papua New Guinea, Lichtenstein, Vatican City, etc.).
On DCF, my country's flag showed up at random posts of mine without me ever having asked for that. You know, maybe someone wants to keep some stuff, like his age, nationality etc private.

Weird. Anyway, I wouldn't expect it to be mandatory or something. I don't think I had a flag on there.
You had a Dutch flag, as I remember, or perhaps an EU flags. I had a Dutch flag when in The Netherlands, but Harry Fluks had an EU flag. Sometimes servers in EU countries had an EU flag show. The flags reflected the registered location of the Internet server used. I think it would be best to have an optional showing of a flag, for those members who don't want their location made public.

Sure! Many websites now have an option to show your gender and age, or not. So why not the location?

You SHOULD, but you probably aren't. Hence as I mentioned "I'm not seeing anything happen" . I'll have to go through the support forums some more time to figure out why isn't it working. If it WERE working, instead of a text box to write your location on your profile, there should be a bunch of countries to choose from.

What was your forum name on DCF? I don't remember a "Whatever" on that forum.
