I made this new thread for general talk about Disney+
A few days ago Disney+ got released in the Netherlands and I’ve watched several youtubers doing reviews. From what I’ve seen the interface looks really nice and there seem to be a lot of content and entertainment value for your money. But none of the reviews focus on things I like to know..
From the examples I’ve seen most content looks like have Dutch subtitles available. But are there more subtitles and dubs to choose from? And when Disney+ is released other places around the world will they have the same subtitles available or are there regional differences?
I didn’t find anyone actually showing any Disney Afternoon episodes on screen. My biggest question is if they are cropped to a 16:9 format or if you can watch the episodes in the original format?
Wouldn't the most logical thing be that local dubs and subtitles (aside from the original English language) are only available in each separate country? That's how Netflix has mostly been working for the past few years.
I would also like to know how the Disney Afternoon series are presented. From what I know, the following have been given HD remasters so far: Goof Troop, 101 Dalmatians: The Series, Chip 'n Dale Rescue Rangers, The Little Mermaid: The Series and The New Adventures of Winnie-the-Pooh. But it varies from release to release whether they have been presented in fullscreen or cropped widescreen. (The latter two have to my knowledge NEVER been released in HD fullscreen anywhere.) And of course, the question is also if any new HD remasters of old Disney TV cartoons will be premiered on Disney+.
I wish they had bonkers and in full screen and old shorts in hd, all of them
It is going to have Bonkers and the old shorts, if the articles I've read are correct - I'm not sure if they'll be full screen/HD, though.
"The old shorts" as in 1920's to 1950's era stuff? That's incredible to hear! I was afraid the platform was just for feature length films and television series. I wonder if they'll include the less appropriate shorts such as The Gallopin' Gaucho or How to be a Detective.

Here's a list I've found which lists everything that will be available on Disney+ on its launch day (November 12):attractionsmagazine.com/disney-plus-day-one-list/. I'm not sure if it's accurate, but it matches with other lists and official announcements that I've seen, so I'd say it probably is.

Sadly, that list only includes a few of the old shorts. I believe I saw The Band Concert, Lonesome Ghosts, Chef Donald, and Steamboat Willie. Mickey Mouse (shorts) was listed under the television series, but I would guess that's referring to the 2013 series, not the mid-20th century run.
Overall, though, the lineup looks pretty good. Quite an impressive catalog, though I admittedly wish it was bigger. I was very glad to see Saludos Amigos in the list, but a little disappointed that I couldn't find Melody Time or Make Mine Music. I think other package films like Fun and Fancy Free and The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad were on there, but those two, as far as I can tell, were not. I really hoped they would be available. I wonder why they seemingly weren't included.

Well, this is just what will be available on the very first day - more will be added eventually, I'm sure. I believe I read somewhere that Disney plans to add 500 more films within the first year - hopefully Melody Time, Make Mine Music, and any other classic films left out will be among that number. And I do hope that more of the old short films will be added, as well.
500 more films in the first year? Wow! That's something to look forward to. What a massive expansion, especially within one year. Does anyone know if the library will just continue and continue to expand, or if films will be temporarily removed as others are added (which I think Netflix might do)?

I tried to find the original source for the "500 films" statement to see if it clarifies anything about this, but I can't seem to find it, so it's possible that I've misremembered something - I can't say for sure. Either way, they definitely do plan to add many more films in the first year - I'm just not certain how many more, or whether films will be removed when they're added, which, as you've noted, occasionally happens on Netflix.
200 is still great! Not as good as 500, of course, but still pretty good. I just hope they continue to let their library expand in size without removing films instead of doing Netflix-style rotations.

Strangely, the first season of Ducktales 1987 is missing from Disney+ for me... am I the only one? Is it just in France?
I also seem to lack Talespin.
At least in the US, we have every episode of 1987 DuckTales and Talespin. Though the selection of available shows differs in other countries. So you're only missing the first season of DuckTales but have the others? That sounds like an error.
A fair selection of classic shorts have been added to the service since the last time this thread was posted in. Problem is that for whatever reason, they decided to put each one under it's own title rather than have them as a series so they're scattered around all over the app. All the ones I've watched are in HD though so that's nice.

Also, there is only S01 of Ducktales 2017, as I said in the topic of the series.
Has the second season finished airing in your region yet? If not, that's probably why. Disney+ seems to not be adding new seasons of currently airing Disney Channel shows until around a month after the last episode of that season airs on tv.
In the US, season 3 premiered recently but none of it is on Disney+ yet and most likely won't be for quite some time.
And some episodes of the French dub of Chip & Dale: Rescue Rangers have some notable sound-synchronization problems at times - not just the voices, but the sound effects too. I wonder if it was always the case with this French audio...

That's what I thought at first, but it seems to be more complicated than that. DT17 airs in Western Europe basically at the same time as the US. Here is what I wrote a couple of days ago in the DT17 topic:
An update on the Ducktales on Disney+ situation. So, season 2 is not available anywhere in the world on D+, except for the US according to what you guys told me here. I was guessing that maybe this had something to do with the rights of airing the season on local national tv channels, but I was wrong (also, the series appears almost at the same time in most of the world!). So, someone called Disney+ (I did not know you could do that), asking why the season is not visible in the UK on D+. Apparently, the streaming platform Hulu - which now belongs to Disney, by the way - has the rights for season 2 of Ducktales. Until those rights expire, they cannot put it on D+. But maybe that was a bullWAK explanation, 'cause there is a paradox here: Hulu does not exist in the UK, or elsewhere in Europe! It is a streaming platform only operating in the US, I think. So, if anything, S02 of DT17 should not be on D+ in the US, whereas the inverse is the case. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
