Does anyone have any idea what the deal is with Talespin in Europe?
It's not on Disney Plus, nor was it on DisneyLife. DVD releases are limited, and it seems that watching it legally around here is an utter nightmare. It's a series that I want to get invested in, but Disney really seem to be making that difficult.
Bonkers isn't available here either, but that's, admittedly, less of a pressing issue for me.
I have no idea why, but ducks just tend to be the most compelling characters.
Donald, Scrooge, Darkwing, Howard, Daffy, Duckman... the list keeps growing!

Disney does not bring on the platform the stuff that they have on their own satellite channels, like Disney XD and such. Yes, believe it or not, even if you are paying monthly, you don't get what Disney gives on tv. The channels have closed last month in the UK, so now a more significative amount of series are slowing being moved to Disney+. But it may not be yet the case in other countries.

Huh. I understand that to be the case for current releases, but I don't quite follow how that could be the case here? Talespin, Aladdin and Bonkers are all absent, even though shows like Timon & Pumbaa, Darkwing Duck, Goof Troop etc are all present. Would they have been shown on the Disney Channel often? It's been years since I've had it, so I have no idea. With any luck, they'll get these shows on Disney Plus soon, but I'm not so sure; when Disney's involved, it's hard to know what's because of some sort of difficulty behind the scenes and what's the result of them just not caring about the show in question.

I am as puzzled as you by their behaviour. Considering how limited their catalogue is, you would expect them to do their best to put as much as possible on the streaming service. But nope. Maybe they really only care about the people that are into Marvel and Star Wars. Other users here are watching DT17 season 3, while me I could watch season 2 only this month. Now that I am trying to be a honest client and paying for what I see, instead of downloading illegally, it feels like going back to the 80's and early 90's, when we had to wait one or two years for an American show to be dubbed and aired on tv. I would have already unsubscribed from Disney+ two months into the subscription, if it weren't for the fact that I have promised to share it with the family member that shares with me their amazon prime and netflix accounts. 😅

I'm one of the few that's actually pretty happy with their catalogue; I've always wanted to either catch up on some of their classics that I missed (Like Gargoyles) or to rewatch some of my favourites (Darkwing Duck was one of my main draws, with Timon & Pumbaa being a bonus). Plus, I don't tend to have much free time to watch things, so I feel like I'm getting my mileage out of my subscription! That being said, they do seem to be focusing a lot on Marvel and Star Wars. I can't blame them too much, seeing as there's huge money in both franchises, but I do have to admit that it's frustrating that some of Disney's own classics are missing. I was super disappointed with DT17, so I've been playing catch-up as of late. I'm plowing my way through season 2, but like yourself, I don't have access to season 3. Like with Talespin, I'd love to have some method of watching their content legally, but the refusal to provide one makes it quite difficult. I'll probably just end up waiting it out, but it would be nice for them to organize worldwide content releases more often. I couldn't cancel my subscription for a variety of reasons, but I totally get those that have or want to; as someone who had a DisneyLife account before Disney Plus came along, the fact that that platform was so much more robust doesn't help.

Are DVD releases of TaleSpin in Europe really so limited? In various countries around Europe, nine DVD discs have been released with 5 or 6 episodes per disc. That's actually a better representation than many other Disney Afternoon shows have on European DVD. Here in Norway the DVDs came out as single volumes, but you can also find them in box sets with 3 discs per set in Germany.

Huh. I didn't do too much of an in-depth look; I couldn't find much with a quick look, so I figured that there wasn't much going on for DVD releases. That's more than I had expected! Are they in organized volumes or are they in scattered collections? And are they available in English, do you know? As far as representation goes, I suppose I'm more bothered by the legal unavailability of some shows; sure, some shows didn't get great DVD releases, but if it's available on Disney Plus I don't mind. With Talespin, though, it feels like it's either DVDs or Disney Plus, neither of which have the full collection available.

Read the Amazon descriptions. Audio languages on the DVDs are: "German (Dolby Digital 2.0), Swedish (Dolby Digital 2.0), Italian (Dolby Digital 2.0), English (Dolby Digital 2.0), Norwegian (Dolby Digital 2.0), Danish (Dolby Digital 2.0)". Which country are you in?
From what I've seen, the DVDs are all chronological from the start... though a few episodes here and there are missing for reasons I don't know. For example, the first disc consists of episodes 1-4 (the opening serial) and episode 6.

...You raise a valid point Looking again, I definitely made too many assumptions. The pack I saw that was available in Region 2 said "Volume 1-3" with 17 episodes, so I assumed those 17 episodes were split across three releases. The wording is odd, but I definitely should have looked a bit closer. I'm in Ireland, so we tend to get whatever's left over from the UK releases. Being a fan of the comics would be impossible if not for online shopping! Apparently, the Region 2 releases are missing some episodes that were present in the Region 1 release. That's my main reason for wishing it would come to Disney Plus; I'd love to have all of the episodes in one place without having to worry about omissions.

You wouldn't get TaleSpin complete on Disney+ in any case. The episodes "Last Horizons" and "Flying Dupes" are missing from the show's American Disney+ release because Disney deems them politically incorrect. The only way to get the series 100% complete is to buy the American DVD releases. (Well, except for the movie edit of the opening story "Plunder & Lightning", which has never been released on home video and contains a few different scenes than the 4-episode version. But an old TV recording of the movie has been circulating on the internet for many years.)
I'm not sure what you mean when you say, "I assumed those 17 episodes were split across three releases." If you're thinking about this UK set, I'm pretty sure it DOES contain 17 episodes split across 3 discs. It seems to contain the first three of the overall nine DVDs (or volumes) that were released in many European countries. There is a listing for a UK edition of Vols. 4-6 too, but I can't see one for Vols. 7-9.
If you have a region-free player, the American DVD sets may be the best option. They're up on Amazon UK for a decent price. (Not sure how shipping to the UK works right now though; the item is not available for shipping to Norway.)

Ahh, that's a shame. I haven't seen the episodes in question, but I can hardly imagine they're worse than Peter Pan; still, when it comes to censorship, Disney will be Disney. I suppose that I may have to start looking into it, then; I'll hold out for a while longer, just in case they do start uploading to Disney Plus, but it seems like I'll want a back-up.
Ah, apologies for not being clear. I was referring to that set; what I meant was that the wording of "Volume 1-3" had me confused. I had heard that the UK release had some episodes missing, and assumed that "Volume 1" was the first US boxset, "Volume 2" was the second and so on. Basically, I thought that, whereas the US got three boxsets with a decent amount of episodes, the UK got a mix and match of seventeen episodes from across those boxsets.
I could probably access a region-free player, so that's probably my best bet. I'll probably hold off for a while, just on the off-chance that Disney decide to put most of Talespin on Disney Plus in my region, but it's good to know that I can access them that way if needs be. It's available for shipping for me, though I'm only allowed to buy one copy of each (Which is enough for me!).

Talespin, Aladdin and Bonkers are all absent, even though shows like Timon & Pumbaa, Darkwing Duck, Goof Troop etc are all present.
We don't have the Aladdin series on US Disney+ either. Not sure what's up with that one unless they're still working on remastering it in HD like they did with some of the other shows.
I was super disappointed with DT17, so I've been playing catch-up as of late. I'm plowing my way through season 2, but like yourself, I don't have access to season 3. It seems that Disney has decided not to add new seasons of currently running shows until a few months or so after that season has finished airing on tv. As DuckTales Season 3 is still ongoing, it's not available on Disney+ anywhere. It's very frustrating for me because there are other shows besides DuckTales that I'm behind on because I'm waiting for that. In the US, Disney is trying to push you into using some app called DisneyNow to watch new episodes which requires a cable subscription which is really stupid and that app doesn't sound like it needs to exist. (If I had cable, I would simply DVR the shows.)
Disney+ has been very lacking on original content when it comes to stuff that isn't Marvel or Star Wars and I honestly think just having new episodes of their Disney Channel shows drop on there the day after they air would help fill that void and probably give more incentive to subscribe to the service rather than forcing people to continue to stick with a dying medium or waiting a year to be able to watch The Owl House after social media has already spoiled most of it for you.

...Huh. I wonder what the problem is with Aladdin? Seeing as all of the movies are on there, I have no idea what the problem would be with the series. Looking around, it seems that no one has a concrete answer. Honestly a bit bizarre!
Oh boy. No idea what that means in places where the Disney Channel has been shut down... hopefully it just means releases at the same time as the US, but it's disconcerting all the same. I don't really see the point of DisneyNow either; even ignoring the fact that it's unavailable outside of the US (Not that that seems to be a problem in Disney's eyes. Looking at you, Hulu.), there's the fact that... it just seems unnecessary. Like you say, anyone who actually has access to DisneyNow can already access the shows much more easily than on the app.
Yeah, it seems that their own original content for Disney Plus is either weirdly niche or pretty lacklustre. Having new episodes of current shows dropping on the app would be amazing! I plan to say subbed anyway, but even I acknowledge that I'd be a lot happier with that.

No one knows why stuff like The House of Mouse isn't on Disney+ either... it just isn't. The 101 Dalmatians series wasn't on Disney+ when it launched, but was added around a year later. I can't see how it would have been a problem to have it there from day 1. Clearly Disney has internal reasons for not (currently) including this or that old show on the service, but what they are is not easy to discern.
