Glad you opened this thread. I was thinking a "background photos" thread might be fun. Do you think it's alright if we also use this thread to speculate on who the people in the portraits might be? I don't want to hijack the thread, but I think it could be fun, and creating another thread might be too redundant.
The image you posted is from The Sign of the Triple Distlefink, I believe.
My understanding is that every picture on Johannes Grote's Duck family tree (save the ones of major characters like Donald and Scrooge) are portraits found in the background of Barks and Strobl stories. I can't tell you which stories all of the portraits came from. I do know this:
These photos were seen in The Old Castle's Secret, though I just scanned the story and can only find the male not the female. Does anyone know on which page the picture of the female is?
There's a photo of a duck in the background of The Last of the Clan McDuck. I have no high quality images of it. He has small eyes and whiskers. I believe LP was the one who theorized he was Downy's father.
That's all I've got right now, but I'll post more anytime I spot something.
No matter what I say or do, know that Jesus loves you.

That would be fun, of course we can. I think this portrait i posted could be Moby Duck's father and Dimwitty's grandfather. The portraits you posted remind me of Fergus and Downy
I found this image somewhere and saved it for future use (such as this). I can't for the life of me find it on the web now, but here it is:
I agree with the theory that this one depicts Fergus (via retcon of course). I mean, I imagine Scrooge is very selective with what kind of portraits he hangs up. It's almost like Rosa unconsciously based Fergus' design off of it.
This one is on Donald's wall. I think it looks quite like Pothole McDuck, although I don't know why Donald would have him on his wall.
These ones I don't have the whole panel of.
This could very well be Della:
This one looks a bit like Strobl's version of Grandpa Duck:
And finally, this is the one from The Last of the Clan McDuck, which I theorized was Downy's father:

Mmm...excelent. The last portrait in Grandma's house looks a lot like her mother Gertrude, they even seem to wear the same clothes
These aren't from Barks or Rosa, but I thought I'd add them anyways. They're from Donald's house in a story called Busybodies by William Van Horn.
These last two are the same one from different panels where different parts are showing. Back when I found these, I believed in the idea that HDL's father was one of Daisy's brothers. And according to Donald's Diary, Daisy has three brothers who are triplets, just like HDL. So my theory was that this picture was of them... and one of them was the father. However, I don't subscribe to that theory anymore.
