Tucker Gilmore, Lauren Albers (Lucky Toupée)
Jack H. Menz (Just a Thought)

Jona Xiao (Jing Hua)
Michael Herrera (Drop)
Julia Butters (Fetch)
Puddles by Zach A. Parrish
A boy discovers that the puddles on the street are portals to another dimension, but his sister is too preoccupied by her phone. This short really left me wanting more.
Exchange Student by Natalie Nourigat
The only human in a classroom full of aliens discovers home to make friends. This short was so-so. The idea was alright, but I didn't care much for the design.
Lucky Toupée by Nicki Mull
In 1920s Ireland, a man buys a toupée from the toupée leprechauns. His girlfriend finds him out, but it turns out she's got male pattern baldness too. Delightfully absurd short.
Just a Thought by Brian F. Menz
What if people could see your thought balloons? In comic book world, a boy tries to hide his newfound crush, but to no avail. Cute short, but not very original.
Cycles by Jeff Gipson
In this special VR short, we turn back the clock when an old woman moves out of her house for the last time. Up's 'Married Life' sequence in reverse, you might say. Neat concept, but there's not nearly enough time to get to know the characters beyond a few highlights.
Lightning in a Bottle by Virgilio John Aquino
A boy captures a lightning bolt in a bottle for the science fair, but soon learns the importance of letting go. The concept is creatively executed, and there's some good character work on the lightning bolts. I like this one.
The Race by Terry Moews
A grim reaper participates in a bike race for his last death of the month, but when a few mishaps reset his quota counter, he calls it quits. This short features dark humor and double meanings, and it's very enjoyable.
Hair-Jitsu by Brian Estrada
When a little girl is faced with her first haircut, she imagines a face-off with the barber, martial arts style. It's a fun scene, but nothing out of the ordinary.
Downtown by Kendra Vander Vliet
A city dweller is suddenly thrown around town, street art flowing from his fingertips. The story is generic, and the art style more reminiscent of a soft drinks commercial. Pass.
京华 (Jing Hua) Flower in the Mirror by Jerry Huynh
A student of martial arts griefs at a shrine of her late teacher. What sets this one apart are the Eastern-inspired art style, and the raw emotion of the protagonist, a reflection of the experiences of its director. Powerful short.
Drop by Trent Correy
A raindrop goes on a thrilling adventure down to earth, and makes a friend being whisked away back up again by evaporation. This is my favorite short of the season: it's got excitement, emotion, and forms a perfect narrative circle.
Zenith by Jennifer Stratton
This short follows a celestial reindeer forming the constellations, and a battle with a black hole. Inspired by Fantasia, it's a bit too abstract for my taste. Where's the heart?
Elephant in the Room by Brian Scott
A man and his son take home a lost baby elephant, for work and for fun, but ultimately unite the poor homesick thing with its parents. This is a heartwarming short with beautiful warm coloring. I really like this one.
Fetch by Mitchell Counsell
A little girl ventures into the woods to play with her pet Oliver: a massive Lovecraftian monster behaving like an oversized puppy. Interesting odd couple. If only there were more.
