I re-read A Letter From Home yesterday, and stumbled upon something that bothers me, chronology-wise. The story implies that the dungeons of Castle McDuck were sealed to conceal the construction of the large vault in which the Templar treasury was hidden. Seems all fine and dandy, but…
Per Barks’ The Old Castle’s Secret, the dungeons were sealed by Sir Swamphole McDuck (1190-1260) way back in 1220 --- a fact that’s repeated in A Letter From Home, by the way. The Templar treasury, however, was only moved to Castle McDuck by Sir Simon McDuck (1437-1509) in 1492…
So, was Sir Swamphole some kind of psychic who somehow knew that his descendent would need a vault 272 years later?
Now it sounds like a goof to me, but maybe I'm missing something?

Was the sealing of the dungeons really related to the Templar vault? It might have been related to the Templars, but all we know of the treasure whereabouts was that it was at "Templar Headquarters" somewhere in Scotland between 1307 and 1492. It's only when the Priory of Sion gets involved, during Sir Simon's reign as treasurer, that the vault is built and the crown is given to Columbus for safekeeping in Cathay. The vault was built only after 1307, as that was one of the dates needed to get in.
One of the triplets speculates (he says "I bet that...") the dungeons were sealed to conceal the construction of the vault. You could argue that it's just a theory and that he might be wrong, but no one contradicts him. Also, wouldn't it have been hard to built a vault long after the access has been sealed?

Conventional access might have been sealed, but surely the McDucks of yore would have known about the secret passageways?
