(Sorry for the odd title, wasn't sure how to word it)
So, I've been trying for a while now to get my hands on the Donald Duck Daily Newspaper Comics Volume 3, but it doesn't seem to be available ANYWHERE.
Like, I understand the situation and how stock can be limited - my confusion lies with how bizarrely difficult it is to find in comparison with every other issue in the Donald Duck Newspaper comics. Anywhere I look, the same pattern seems to emerge: Volume 2 and 4 are readily available (new) in most places. Volume 1 and 5 are usually only available in used condition, but can be found if you dig a little. Both volumes of the Sunday Comics take some sleuthing to find at a reasonable price, but there are a few select retailers where you can get your hands on them.
Then there's volume 3. No availability whatsoever on most Amazon variants. The few that have it are exorbitant in price (200 euro minimum). Not available on IDW's website. Not available on AbeBooks. Even looking into obscure retailers, most of them don't have it in stock. I've tried multiple different ways of writing it in on eBay, none available. I've even resorted to Facebook Marketplace, to no avail.
Is there any reason this book in particular is so difficult to get?
And, if it's allowed, does anyone have any idea as to where I could buy it? I'm truly at a loss here. It's the only Donald Duck Newspaper collection that I'm missing, and I'd love to get my hands on one for a vaguely decent price.

Some of those IDW books must've gotten very low print runs as sales went poorly. I paid quite a bit for my IDW Family Circus Collection Volume 2, and there's a Volume 3 image around the internet but I'm sure it never came out. Also I can't be the only one who thinks amazon sellers all co-conspire to up prices on books. Like one guy puts it up for $100, it sells, and now everyone thinks that's the price and we're stuck at it for a while... very frustrating.
Other option is to cold call comic shops and see if they still have it on the shelves. I bet some do!

I ordered a copy in November, which was due to arrive early January. Sadly, it was lost and I was given a refund... was still gutted. I don't know how quick I'd be to buy a copy for $100 - I don't necessarily mind the price in itself, but shipping and import charges would make that a nightmare for me. Still... had I not been expecting a copy at the time, I probably would have leapt on that one.
That does seem to be the case - I had a very difficult time getting my hands on the Sunday comics. This volume, however, has been another story altogether. Almost every copy I've seen was over €200 - I'm willing to spend a little extra on these comics, but that goes past even my limit!
It does seem to be the case that IDW's newspaper sets didn't go very well. Neither Mickey nor Donald's Sunday strips managed to reach a Volume 3, and Donald's sets are in low supply outside of 2 and 4, which are bizarrely plentiful. Still, it seems odd to me that this volume in particular has such issues with stock - was it given lower stock for some reason? Was it just the case that people were less willing to part with their copies of this one? It's bizarre... For a short while, I was beginning to doubt that the book even existed! Though, that's mainly because I had four separate sellers try to sell me Volume 2 under listings for Volume 3.
I looked into that Family Circus book, and it does seem to be a strange situation. From what I've seen, there doesn't seem to be a concrete publishing date for the supposed Volume 3 - some sources say 2012, some say 2014. The official site for the Library of American Comics doesn't list it either, so I'd say you're safe in assuming that Volume 3 was never properly released.
I don't necessarily know about conspiring, but I have noticed certain comics leap in price when people have the opportunities. I've paid a little extra for most of my comics, but the prices I've seen some of them go for... hoo boy. I'm trying to snatch up as many of the ones I want as I can, it's crazy how expensive some can get! I agree that it's insanely frustrating - I'm not a hardcore collector, so having to pay such prices for certain books is insanity.
I actually didn't know about eBay alerts - that's a really handy feature to know about! As it stands, I may have gotten myself a copy - I ordered one at retail price from Amsterdam. To be honest, I'm expecting it to fall through - I ordered it on Saturday, and have heard nothing since. The book's listing was changed on Monday to be out of stock... not the greatest sign. Still, I'm going to hold out until I get some sort of contact. I'm just hoping that it's shipping information, and not a cancellation!
Calling comic book shops is an interesting idea, but I doubt I'd get much out of it. Comics in general aren't a huge thing where I live - the biggest comic shop I know of tends to stock very little in terms of older Disney content. I've asked them about several different Disney titles, and they weren't even able to order them. If they can't get the Don Rosa Library, I wouldn't hold out much hope for the Daily Newspaper Comics!
All the same, your advice has been pretty helpful! I'm hoping that my copy from Amsterdam will arrive, but if it doesn't, that eBay alerts system should come in handy!

Small update for anyone wondering - Turned out it WAS out of stock in the shop in Amsterdam. They told me they'd try to order it in and to wait for it, but I don't have much hope there.
Meanwhile, I've checked every day and found zilch online. Amazon Spain have a single copy for just over €200. Rakuten have a copy, but I don't think they'll ship to me (and even if they do, import charges will bring it over €200 as well). Amazon Brazil have a copy at a relatively decent price, but don't ship outside of Brazil. Thought I found a solid deal on Amazon Italy... but it's only in Italian. A compromise I'm really considering making at this point, because I'm feeling totally out of options otherwise.
Not gonna lie, this is utter insanity to me. Why this volume in particular is so bizarrely difficult to find, I have no idea.
Would it be worth going for an Italian copy? I've been keeping up with my lessons and am getting a decent enough understanding, I'd like to think. I don't recall the previous volumes being too heavy in dialogue - would the difference really be that noticeable?

This was the last Donald Duck volume I needed and got lucky. A friend had it and was willing to trade it to me for some books I didn’t need anymore. I don’t see many and what is out there isn’t cheap. I hope you’re able to find a copy for a good price.

Dang, congrats on that!
I'm keeping an eye on every conceivable place for it, but no luck so far. I'm willing to go above what's fair for these books (Ireland barely has any Duck comics to begin with, so I know that I'll be paying extra for shipping and, in most cases, import charges), but over €200 just isn't something I can justify for a single book. Still, I have three separate eBay alerts set up, that place in Amsterdam is trying to source a copy for me and I'm checking several different Amazon sites as well as a few others every day - with any luck, I'll get my hands on one eventually!
Thanks for the well wishes! I'll update again if I find anything, but for now it's a game of patience.

I have a complete set available, vol. 1-5; so yes, including that elusive third volume. The only problem is - I don't really want to break it (the set) up though, so I guess this doesn't really help much. The book(s) is(are) located in the Netherlands.

sk
Ahh, that's a shame Sadly, I already have 1, 2, 4 and 5, so I wouldn't be able to justify going for a full set.
If you change your mind at any point and are willing to sell volume 3 separately, I'd be more than happy to discuss it with you! I do understand where you're coming from, though, so if you do stick with selling them as a set, good luck!

I followed the advice of afroduck and it worked out!
At long last, my search has come to an end - after several months, many misleading sellers, a decent number of less-than-viable options and even an Italian copy, I finally have this insanely difficult to find volume. Huge thanks to everyone who helped, and to afroduck for leafing me to the place that finally had a real copy available.
Still not 100% clear as to what it is about this volume that's made the search so difficult, but hey, I've got it now!

Glad I could help out. Wow that got to you quick. Random volumes of books being weirdly expensive or hard to buy can be super irritating and will never make sense to me either.
These newspaper collections I pre-ordered or got right after release when they were easy to find.
But the Fantagraphics Don Rosa library I waited a couple of years before finally deciding to start collecting. But then the first two box sets was already impossible to find. And for that reason, I still haven't bought any of the volumes. So they lost a customer for the entire series because of the limited number of box sets produced.
Also, the last Barks box set (The Lost Peg Leg Mine/The Black Pearls of Tabu Yama) is hard to find anywhere else than on Amazon. None of my usual go-to online bookstores has it. I've stopped using Amazon for books as most arrive damaged, but I gave up on finding the last Barks box anywhere else. It's on its way in the mail now, hopefully surviving.

I know, I was shocked when I got the notification that it had cleared customs! As for the random volumes thing... I've noticed it pop up a few times in things, like the Timeless Tales volumes from IDW. I know Uncle Scrooge Timeless Tales Volume 2 is harder to find than 1 or 3, and I've seen some high prices charged for it. Thankfully, I'm not in any hurry to get those, but it's another example of the issue that I had here - there doesn't necessarily seem to be a reason for it.
I still can't fathom what has made these specific volumes so much more difficult to obtain than their counterparts - none seem to have anything that warrants it, at least in relation to other volumes in the same series.

I also waited on the Don Rosa Library, but got lucky for the most part - though, like yourself, I couldn't get my hands on the box set for 1 & 2. It's not as big a deal to me, so I was fine with just the books for those. Had similar issues with some of the Floyd Gottfredson Mickey Mouse volumes - again, though, they're low priority for me so I'm not too worried about it.
It sucks to not have the box sets for certain ones, but I made my peace with it fairly early on - I got the Christmas Treasury box set for Barks, so unless I double up I won't be getting every volume in a box set no matter what.
I've ordered most of my books from Amazon.
I have the same Barks box set on the way and it's due in a few hours, coincidentally - so far, of all my orders on Amazon, the only one that arrived damaged was one of the Rosa box sets.
Still, I definitely understand the concern - the corner of my volume 7/8 box set is squished, and it's pretty unsightly compared to the other volumes. Could be worse for sure, but I'd get not wanting to risk that happening.
Good luck on your set, hopefully it's in solid condition!
EDIT: So, I received my copy of Peg Leg Mine/Tabu Yama. Wouldn't you know, it has a dent in the bottom of the box

Don't remind me of Uncle Scrooge Timeless Tales Volume 2 lol. I paid and ungodly amount for that, I think it may literally be the most expensive book I've ever bought, it was the last of the Timeless Tales hardcovers I needed.
I got real lucky with the Rosa boxsets, I had a bunch of alerts out on sites and the moment they got reprinted last year I grabbed the 3 I needed. I'm also getting the Barks and Masters box sets as they're released to avoid paying an arm and a leg down the line. Though sadly I gave up on 2 of the earlier Barks box sets (they were waaaaaaay too expensive) and just got the 4 individual books.
