Here's an idea that's been in my head for some time, but I've been unable to properly visualize. In order to organize the different "schools" of Disney comic art, I've been thinking of creating an artists "family tree" that portrays the main visual influences/styles of major Disney comic artists. Obviously, some editorial teams worked more closely together and some artists have a more distinctive style than others, but as a simplistic model it would be interesting to see the variety of art styles. Some artists would appear fully-formed (Ub Iwerks, to start with), while many others would sport different influences (Jippes has been known to imitate Barks, Gottfredson, and Taliaferro for a start).
Is there any sense to this idea, or would it end up like a massive Rorschach test? Sure, Perego follows Taliaferro and Mota follows Branca, but some artists are quite divergent or take influences from many others. Curious as always to hear your thoughts.
