While i was browsing the forum, i found Sim's thread about the many grandfathers of Scrooge. While reading it, i had the idea of trying to merge all those characters into one and create a small biography about him. That's the result i got:
"Dirty" Dingus Scrooge Titus Ebenezer Silas Elias "Pamfilius" McDuck was born in Glasgow in 1810, where he worked as a coal miner.
At sometime before 1829, he married Molly Mallard and had at least 3 sons: Angus in 1829, Jake in 1832 and Fergus in 1835.
At some time after 1835, Dingus got enough money to buy a boat and travel to the New World, hoping to earn money to help his family. He then settled in the USA, where he became a gold digger.
In 1848 he stole gold from Pokerdyck (Rockerduck's grandfather) and then buried a treasure (maybe Pokerdyck's Gold?) on Rainbow Island. During the civil war, he navigated through the USA with his nephew and his grandnephews (why does Dingus has nephews in the USA? Well, according to Scrooge McDuck Wikia one of Scrooge's great-uncles was called Orville McDuck and he left Scotland to live in the USA, so maybe they are Orville's son and grandsons?) and fought Pokerdyck and the Beagle Boys' ancestor
In 1876, he was drafted by the USA army but deserted and went back to Scotland after about 30 years away. He tested his grandsons Scrooge and Cyril's stingness and, although Scrooge was approved, Cyril failed the test and was exiled to the Highlands. In 1878, Dingus bought a property in Duckburg and died sometime before 1880 or 1885.
Scrooge's grandpa had a very busy life if we take in account all the records...
I'm not sure I like the idea that Grandpa McDuck stole gold from someone else. That just doesn't jell* with Fergus's speech about the McDucks being honest people. Of course, Fergus could simply be unaware that theft happen, or actively trying to pretend it never did, but that would be really sad.
*You see, if it doesn't jell, it isn't aspic, and this ain't jelling.

I don't think he would have know since that happened while he was in the USA while Fergus was in Glasgow
Also, Dingus' nickname of "Dirty Dingus" could have another meaning besides the fact that he worked on a mine and was always covered with dirt. Perhaps he wasn't a very good person
