Oh, I'd say they're right to assume that the vast majority of people who read this comic have seen the movies, probably multiple times. And you're right, it's the grounding in the various movies that gives the characters their distinct personalities. Mebberson is good on that front in her online Pocket Princesses cartoons, too. Every princess has a distinct personality: bubbly or focused, idealistic or down-to-earth, etc. Mebberson knows which ones are morning people and which are not!
I also was irritated by the number of pages devoted to the Zootopia cinestory preview (kinda reminded me of those BOOM TPB collections...). But I gotta say, the young neighbor girl to whom I gave the comic was all excited about the preview section, having just seen Zootopia, so maybe it worked as advertising. We'll see what the comics-to-ads ratio is in future issues.
Ah, hex, now that I have found your blog, I have read your full review of Disney Princess #1! I like your side-by-side character depictions from movie/comic adaptation of movie/Mebberson.

I liked the first two issues quite a bit. Two of my daughters (ages 13 and 16) really enjoyed them, as well. I think the daily strip format works well here. Not sure how much I would enjoy longer stories with princesses.
I was finally able to get the first three issues of this comic.
I have no idea where the complaints about the issues being too short came from. Yes, each issue had a preview for a cinestory at the end but the Princess strips still took up 22 pages in each issue. Considering that these issues are only $2.99 each, I'd say I had gotten my money's worth from them. (By comparison, the C-3P0 comic Marvel recently released was $4.99 and had less pages than this comic did. Now that was a ripoff.)
My only real complaint about these Princess comics is that because they were drawn as newspaper style strips, the comic had to print them all sideways. So having to hold the comics sideways to read them was a little awkward. The strips themselves are hilarious though. I haven't laughed this much with a comic in quite some time.
