One note-just rewatched Bygones. Reggie-the only member of the Squadron of Seven to be positively identified by name other than Rick Sky-appears to be a porcupine, not a squirrel.
Thanks for that correction; I went back and revised the review accordingly. I missed the quills protruding from under Reggie's helmet the last time around.
First of all, I'd like to say that I've enjoyed your in-depth look at TaleSpin. You taught this old fan a few new things about her favorite cartoon series.
As someone who has dabbled in fanfic writing, it's interesting to learn how real writers think/work. A.k.a. where they got their ideas from.
There are a couple of things I've always wondered that I noticed you didn't touch on.
Was the von Bruinwald castle in "Balooest of the Blue Bloods" a ref to Castle Brunwald in "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade"?
And was the scene where Rebecca first met Wildcat a nod to "Mr. Hobbs Takes a Vacation"? There's a scene in that movie ("Mr. Hobbs") where Maureen O'Hara and Lauri Peters meet the plumber, who shakes their hands. Unfortunately, he had just come from working in a cesspit.
Thanks, Ann! I'm glad you enjoyed it. I have no information either way about those two possible references, but I think those are good guesses; Wildcat's intro scene is very similar to the Mr. Hobbs bit, and the Indiana Jones franchise was often referenced in Talespin and the other Disney Afternoon shows, so someone could easily have borrowed the castle name (after noticing that it lent itself to a bear-specific pun).
