Sweet Jesus, I am about to faint. Uncle Scrooge and the Infinity Dime will have a variant cover by FRANK MILLER!!! I can't wait for this cover to get revealed. Also, it's pretty funny that soon Frank Miller will be added to Inducks. Prestige format, around 10 variant covers, including one by Alex Ross and one by Frank Miller. It seems Marvel really is going all in on this one!
All cover variants as listed in the Previews catalog:

The one I want the most is the Walt Simonson one. But it seems that one is going to be a 1:25 variant, and I doubt I can convince my local comic shop to order more than 25 copies of this comic...
Doubt it. The common theme on all these is that other than the one cover made by the actual artist of the story, they're all popular superhero comics artists. A Don Rosa cover would appeal to fans- these covers are trying to do the opposite, appeal to non-fans and drag them in to read it.

I think I will purchase the Ross regular one and the McNiven foil variant... I am also curious to see Miller's

That's a good point, and I guess that's why they decided to add a classic Barks comic to this issue. But I think they should have added another classic Scrooge comic instead of "Christmas on Bear Mountain". I mean I understand that it's the first appearance of Scrooge but it's nowhere near among the very best Scrooge comics. I think they should have added "The Black Knight" which probably would appeal to people who primarily read superhero comics much more.

Agreed, Scrooge appears somewhat briefly in that story and it's not even Scrooge as we know him.. "Only a Poor Old Man" would have been a more on-point choice.
hex Thanks for listing all variants! Btw, I wonder if they tried to get Don Rosa to do one.
I can’t imagine that such a request would go over well. Rosa is pretty much retired, as well as being pretty vocal that he is very much a Barks fan and not a Disney fan.

"Only a Poor Old Man" could've maybe worked, if advertised as "reprint of the first issue of Uncle Scrooge". Otherwise, "Christmas on Bear Mountain" is the obvious choice. Again, it's not the best representation of the character, but that's us thinking as fans- and this isn't trying to hook existing fans as much as it's trying to hook non-fan comic book readers into it, and in that sense, "Plus: A reprint of the character's first appearance ever!" is an obvious marketing hook.

Agree with KKM. The current USA market for "floppy comics" is not about reading the stories. It is mostly about sleeving and boarding the "key" issues and storing them for future value. Maybe also looking at the cover, while flipping through the collection. But definitely not open it, lest it drop the condition to VF (very fine).
Basically the floppy comics have become a collection/illustration item rather than a narrative work. So the focus on multiple variants covers, as well as the reprint of "first appearance" of a character, which in the intention of Disney will make this issue a "minor key".
The best way to "spread the fandom to the world", is not via the "floppy comic", but via trade paperbacks or even better hardcover editions like the Fantagraphics ones. My 8 year old son is really appreciating the Carl Barks Library and the Disney Masters. I have to accept dog ears and the occasional jam stain, but witnessing the creation of a new fan in real time is priceless.
and this isn't trying to hook existing fans as much as it's trying to hook non-fan comic book readers into it
But that's exacty why they should have not chosen "Christmas on Bear Mountain"! It's not a very good story to hook non-fan comic book readers. Even though the main hook is the new "Infinity Dime" story, the bonus reprint story needs to act as a sort of bridge between "Infinity Dime" and the classic Duck universe for superhero comic fans. And "The Black Knight" would have been PERFECT to accomplish that goal!

Personally, I would have chosen something about Scrooge’s dime, maybe a Magica DeSpell story or “Lost Beneath the Sea”, to keep the theme of a dime going.

Again, you're thinking like a fan. You're thinking you need to convince them of the character you like. You're not thinking like a marketer, where what you need to do is convince them this story is special and scarce and thus they must buy it to have a special collectable issue. And the way you easily do that is going "this is the first appearance of the character", even if you and I know the character is not formed in said first appearance

No, you are thinking like a fan. Only a fan cares about the first appearance of Scrooge. To anyone else it's just a comic that's okay but nowhere near the masterpiece "The Black Knight" is.
I don't know how else to convey to you "the story doesn't matter because you're not really selling it to people super interested in it, the prestige of it does because it's a gimmick to help hook collectors and people who care about prestige of things like that"
