Last year we got Donald Duck's Halloween Scream! for Halloween ComicFest. It doesn’t look like IDW has any Disney comics this year, but we’ll get a preview of Mickey’s Inferno (probably sponsored by Papercutz), and I guess The Nightmare Before Christmas manga from Tokyopop is considered a Disney comic too.
But looking at the cover images, it looks like they are part of a 25 pack of mini-comics for $4.99. Anyone know if this is a pack of 25 identical comics the comic shops buy for $4.99, or do we as customers have to buy a pack of 25 various mini-comics for $4.99? Looks like there are only 13 different mini-comics for ComicFest, so I’m guessing they are packs of identical comics that the shops are supposed to give out for free.
Btw. Looking at preview pdf for Mickey’s Inferno, we can see that this is a new translation and quite different from the one Gemstone did.
The comics that the shop gives out for free are the full-size ones. The packs of mini-comics, like these, are meant to be bought by people like you and me and handed out as Halloween treats. That's what I do! I ordered the Mickey's Inferno and a couple of others. I find that most kids are happy to get a comic book rather than candy...they're getting enough candy elsewhere. It's usually possible to order one (pack of a) comic that works well for little kids and one that works for older kids.
I order them in summer, when they're first shown on the Halloween ComicFest website. The first year I found out about these, I tried to order a couple different packs in late August, and one of them was sold out.
Are you sure that the Mickey's Inferno isn't an IDW Disney production?
Ah, so that’s how it works! Thanks for this information, I’ll ask my local comic shop if they are still available for ordering then. I’ve been re-ordering comics missing from my pull lists several times this year, sometimes as long as a month after the release date. And that have worked fine so far.
I’m assuming the Infero comic is from Papercutz as they are publishing Mickey’s Inferno as vol. 4 in their "Disney Graphic Novel" series later this year.
Diamond's web site isn't very helpful on this either--it's listed as being published by "Diamond Publications", but a lot of the Halloween ComicFest books I checked are listed that way. (Not all, though)
Just picked up my packs of mini-comics today, and the Mickey's Inferno comic is indeed from Papercutz, a preview of their coming full-length publication. There's an all-new English script by Stefan Petrucha.
This means there hasn't been an IDW Disney mini-comic yet. Last year there was the full-sized Halloweenfest comic with Wm Van Horn's "It's in the Bag!" I'm hoping for an IDW Disney mini-comic one of these years, so that I can get all my friends in different cities to pass them out to trick-or-treaters. My vote for first story: Janet Gilbert's "All Tricks and No Treats." A Halloween story that's accessible to 5-year-olds but not insulting to 10-year-olds, that demands no prior acquaintance with the characters (though the final panel is funnier if you know Scrooge swims in money), and that would be fun for all of us insiders to see, since it hasn't been published here yet!
