If I recall correctly she also said she needed the coins from other rich people to complete the spell (though I could be wrong since it has been a long time since I last read her original story), so seeing her go after those coins as well could be interesting as well.
You recall correctly, but the same story clarifies she already bought coins from other rich men:

Although it's not a prequel, there is one story where Magica De Spell after Flintheart Glomgold's first coin, rather than Scrooge's: coa.inducks.org/story.php?c=D+2007-414
This is more of a prequel than a sequel, but I would love to read someone's interpretation of why Magica De Spell began to hunt down Scrooge McDuck's first dime leading up to the events of "The Midas Touch". The idea to complete such a powerful spell from a person with a reputation like Scrooge probably wasn't on impulse; it probably required a lot of planning and motivation on Magica's part. If I recall correctly she also said she needed the coins from other rich people to complete the spell (though I could be wrong since it has been a long time since I last read her original story), so seeing her go after those coins as well could be interesting as well.
No, a slight misremembering from your part makes this whole construction fall down. Magica first shows up at the Money Bin saying she needs coins from all rich people in the world, and Scrooge isn't singled out from the rest — she just wants a random coin from him. Scrooge accidentally gives him his lucky dime rather than a random other dime, and asks for it back, explaining it is his favourite coin, which suddenly makes Magica realise that, as a coin he often touched all his life, the Dime is probably much more charged with power than a more recent coin.
Thank you for the responses everyone; looks like I did mis-remember some details of the story (my bad). That being said, I would still love to read an "origin story" for Magica De Spell (i.e. expanding on what motivated her to make that amulet in the first place)

Good to know about that story. Anyway, Magica had already been shown stealing Flintheart Glomgold's first coin in Don Rosa's A Little Something Special (1997). It's not clear how much are we meant to take that scene seriously (that is, the theft is permanent), or if it is implied that he later got the coin back.

I don't think a special reason is needed, she simply found a spell that can make you "rich, rich, rich", and the spell is as (apparently) easy as getting coins touched by the world's richest men. After discovering that, she did what virtually everybody would have done, i.e. start collecting said coins. Anyway, this Italian story from 2014 is sort of a prequel to the first Magica story.
Mystery of the Ghost Town Railroad. It's been ages since I read it but it always seemed ripe for a sequel and I wanted to see those characters again.
The 2014 story Men of Mettle (chapter 24 of "Tamers of Nonhuman Threats") by Jensen/Andersen shows those characters again according to Inducks. I haven't read it, but I think they just make a cameo, as the series is noted for having cameos of past characters in every chapter.
I'm always stunned by the fact that The Think Box Bollix just ends with the revelation that Gyro has given a bunny human intelligence. There are some huge implications of that, and yet to my knowledge it has never been explored further. What does the bunny think of its own existence? How is his relationship to his missus affected by this new intelligence? How is the bunny's general life affected by it? How does the world react to an intelligent, talking bunny? What does Gyro think about his own actions? Maybe all of this could be explored in a story starring HDL as Junior Woodchucks. Maybe they could struggle with the moral dilemma of whether it would be better to re-un-intelligentify the bunny or not, and earn a merit badge in the process.
I've also thought about Noble Porpoises. The story opens with HDL fishing and hooking a strange fish (which appears to be either an alien or some sort of science experiment, or maybe a genetic mutation). As soon as Donald learns of it, he wants to make a quick buck and sells it to an aquarium. The rest of the story is all about fishing for porpoises. Now, as soon as I saw the fish I thought "Hey, Scrooge runs a zoo for strange and exotic animals, as seen in Trail of the Unicorn! He would love to have that fish, and he would hate the fact that Donald sold it to the aquarium for a dollar, instead of to Scrooge!" So maybe Scrooge could find out about this, chastise Donald, and then try to buy the fish from the aquarium. Maybe Gyro gets called in to do some tests on the fish. Anyways, I think there's potential here.
And speaking of Trail of the Unicorn, I'd like to see more stories of Scrooge collecting rare animals for his zoo. Maybe a prequel with Scrooge telling the story of how he found the Gnoof in Arkansas. Or maybe just a story with Scrooge hunting mythical beasts. (This isn't Barks-related, but I always found it strange that the zoo isn't mentioned at all in Don Rosa's Return to Plain Awful. I feel like Scrooge would love to have square chickens in his zoo!)
