Yup. I was immediately reminded of a particular Lockman/Alvarado story from the 70's with a similar premise of a big Beagle Boys "convention" in Duckburg, though I can't find it on INDUCKS… I think it was in an issue of Uncle Scrooge?
SPOILERS FOR "THE BIRTHDAY BEAGLE MASSACRE"
Yes, I have a feeling Vic Lockman would have loved this episode.
I couldn't help thinking they missed an opportunity to slip in a cameo by the classic identical comic book Beagle Boys at the party, with the traditional "176" numbering ... maybe called them the "Barks Gang" or something. Would have been a nice nod. Although the "Sixth Avenue Friendlies" did look a lot like Barks' Beagle Boys.
Nice little metajoke about how HD&L are supposed to be identical, even though they're pretty different in this show.
And looks like Pan Maciej called it about a Lena-Magica connection ... though I'm surprised they tipped their hand so early. I'd have expected them to draw the revelation out over the whole first season (like they're doing with the Della Duck mystery).

STILL SPOILERS
I enjoy this episode Waaaay more the I enjoyed last two.
I did love the Cirque du Soleil Beagles the most for how creepy they where... Actualy the entrie episode had some errie atmoshpere to it (in a good sence)
The hint of Magica at the end was great. Looks like they seting her up as much darker villain.
But to be fair this aren't the most subtle hints :
I also think it's refreshing that this episode didn't had any in-jokes/easter-eggs... at least I didn't notice any in your-face ones.

I'm wondering if, in this universe, Magica is some kind of evil spirit/possessed of supernatural powers, whom Scrooge imprisoned/banished at some point in the distant past, and whose pursuit of Scrooge is rooted in a thirst for revenge rather than something as mundane as a dime?
I notice Donald is absent in this episode too ... the second in a row. Looks like they're using him sparingly even while keeping him "main cast". Given that they didn't recast his quacky voice, and that he still seems more Cartoon-Donald than Comics-Donald (although closer to Comics-Donald than any previous animated version we've ever seen) maybe that's the best way to do it.

STILL SPOILERS: It looks to me like Magica is pulling a Voldemort and Lena is her Quirrel. I presume she was trapped inside the necklace-thing, which does of course bring Solego's plotline to mind. Note also how Magica's spirit manifesting as a shadow looks very much like Magica's bewitched, demonic shadow in one of the original series' best episodes, Magica's Shadow War.
Ok. I must ask are the "Glam Yankee" Beagles refrence to annything specyfic? When I see them for the first time I asume it's was Clockwork Orange refrence (with their eyes being coverd in black and all) but I'm propable wrong on that one...

I can't wait for Lena to reveal she was Shadow the Hedgehog the whole time
EDIT: Those terrifermians aren't a leak, that's from the animatics trailer they've shown on one of the panels ages ago, it's where we also saw that the McDuck Clan ghosts will appear. That said, I hadn't connected the dots yet to those being terrifermians, it just looked like an evil giant squirrel to me.
I know I've been critical of DuckTales '17's character redesigns in the past, but I kind of like these new Terrifermians. A little less cartoony, and more what you'd expect an underground species to look like. Not sure what direction they're planning to go with them, but since they appeared in all of one Barks story, I feel taking liberties with their origin/characterization is less egregious than the changes they've made to, say, Gyro or HD&L.
The bit about the Clan McDuck ghosts is news to me. Do we know if it'll be in a dream sequence? Is this where Fergus appears?
We just saw an animatic bit where one of the Nephews screams and the ghosts of the McDuck clan shout behind him. It's where we also saw things like a money shark (literal), Donald magically swallowing a tiger, and what is now clearly revealed to be Magica's shadow form threatening Webby.

I'd say it's less they're using Donald sparingly, and more they're using anyone who's not the kids as part of a rotating secondary cast. The focus here is on HDL and Webby, they're the main characters.

Yes, I agree. And in the episode where they had to introduce Gyro, Quackfaster and in a way also Scrooge "post-pilote" they even dropped one of the nephews! I like this parsimony in the use of the main cast (consider also McQuack still on the background). It feels like a family more than a cartoon gang.

Comment with spoilers on episode 5
In this episode I liked a lot the development of Webby. What a nice character! The contrast between her bright mind and her insecurity has been well exploited so far. Also, she's extremely adorable in her mimicry, especially in the pauses right after she has talked, while the spectator is lost in her lovely weirdness. I did not like the alternative BB. Not the idea in itself, but what kind of other BB they gave us. I found all groups way too weird, and not funny. Magica! Yes!!! Please, I want her to be a scary scary scary scary super-villain! Highlight of the episode: Louie and the seagulls...

In the old show there where episodes where HD&L didn't appear ("Dime Enough for Luck", "Lunchpad first crash", "The Duck who know to much", "Hero for Hire", "Aqua Ducks" and maybe one or two more) or even three where Scrooge didn't appear ("Sir Gyro the Gearloose", "Super Doo", "Lunchpad Civil War") and the rest of the "main cast" - Lunchpad, Webby - would appear "once a while".
I have no problem with character from main cast not appearing as they will get focus in another episode. "Great dime chase" focus on developing Louie, the pilot on Dewie, "Beagle Birthday Massacre" on Webby etc. There is no need to force every single character in every episode.

I don't know the original series (if not vaguely). I was not making a comparison, just noticing that the authors are avoiding the "cartoon gang" scheme.
