This summer sees the highly-anticipated return of DuckTales, as Disney once again brings Scrooge McDuck and his troublesome nephews back to the zeitgeist. TV screens won’t be the only place to catch the new animated adventures of these cartoon ducks, however. This July will also see the launch of DuckTales tie-in comics from IDW. Creators have yet to be announced, but the series will have a similar aesthetic to the look of the new TV show, allowing easy crossover for fans.
In addition to DuckTales, IDW will also be kickstarting a Tangled series of comics based on the animated TV show Tangled: The Series. The comic adaptation will begin with an original graphic novel due out in August. Tangled: Adventure Is Calling will feature the continuing adventures of Rapunzel, along with Eugene (the former Flynn Rider), Pascal, Maximus, and their new friend Cassandra.
“We’re extremely excited to expand IDW’s relationship with Disney. There’s a lot of buzz surrounding both of these new animated series and we aim to live up to, and exceed, fan expectations.” IDW editor Sarah Gaydos said in a statement.
A three page preview of DuckTales can be found in the above link.
The Tangled television series has been pretty good so far and I am looking forward to both of these comics. It's nice to see IDW start expanding beyond just the classic characters. (Wonder what that will mean for the Joe Books comics though? Their Disney Princess series already features Rapunzel.)
Rumor around the comic community grapevine is that Joe Comics is in severe financial trouble, like teetering on the edge. But this is a rumor so who really knows.
But on subject that preview doesn't look bad I'm always game for more Duck Tales! Never watched the new Tangled series but I will probably now check it out.

That sounds believable seeing how their various books are faring out. (A lot of them getting constantly delayed or cancelled after a few issues) It would make some sense if Joe Books was falling under and IDW is picking up the pieces. Or it could be possible that IDW acquired the license to Tangled and only Tangled. Who knows? We'll have to wait and see how this affects the Disney Princess comic.

My friend who claims to be "in the know" says that Joe Comics will be gone by October but then again back around Thanksgiving he was saying they would be gone by July. He did also say that you would start seeing their books appearing in other places right before the end. Does Tangled count on that front or is Disney Princess as a whole considered another franchise? I don't get to talk to him a lot anymore but I have reached out to him.
Certainly something is going on over there but it could be anything.
More info including hi-res (pre-release) covers at IDW's page.
Looks like DuckTales will be a regular sized comic ay $3.99 while Tangled have 72 pages at $9.99.
DuckTales at IDW is good news! The Darkwing team + Amy has visited the Walt Disney Company and tweeted about DuckTales right afterwords a couple of times lately, so I suspected they were involved in a new DuckTales comic project. But that sounds less likely now.

From what I understand Tangled with only be that price and length for the "graphic novel" or first book. Then it will become a regular monthly comic for the $3.99 price afterwards.

The Disney Princess comic from Joe Books features newspaper like comic strips focusing on different Princesses from each of the main animated Disney films. (Excluding Anna and Elsa from Frozen as that had its own comic) They recently released an issue with all of the strips in it being about Rapunzel. This Tangled comic IDW is releasing is going to be something different but it would be odd to see two ongoing comics featuring Rapunzel from two different publishers.
If Darkwing Duck ends up being able to continue through IDW, that would be fantastic.
I'm glad to see IDW expanding their Disney line. They seem to have a good relationship with Disney, with IDW putting out an all-ages Star Wars comic. Marvel apparently have no interest in 'kids' comics.

Yes it would and maybe they could do another printing of that Darkwing Duck Omnibus.

That just seems suicidal on Marvel's part. Who do they think are going to buy their books in the future? Gotta get 'em when they are young. If not for Gold Key I would not be into comics today.
I'm also really happy to hear about the IDW DuckTales comic. And a sea serpent/lake monster! I love those critters! I have a fairly complete collection of Disney comics stories featuring lake monsters, at least those published in English, French or German.
So, I still don't know how I'm actually going to be able to view the new DuckTales--whether I'll be able to see them when broadcast or whether I'll have to wait until the first season comes out on DVD. Though the fact that GeoX is considering reviewing them as they appear is making me think I'll have to find a way to watch them on initial broadcast. But at least I do know where I'll be able to buy the comics, yay!
I assume that someone would post the news here if there were rumors/indications that Disney was planning to release the as-yet-unreleased episodes of the original DuckTales on DVD. I had high hopes that they would do so, as part of the publicity ramping up to the new series. I want Ducky Mountain High!

I think they have a YouTube channel DISNEY XD in multiple countries, and the original show is available on Amazon.
I think it looks good so far. Louie, however, is unimpressed (but he seems unimpressed by anything. Louie is too cool for TV tie-in comic books. Louie is too cool for you, too.)
Huh. A comic based on a cartoon based on a comic based on characters from cartoons. It doesn't sound well.
I was about to say the same thing. I can sort of understand (though I do not approve) why would they make some changes when adapting a comic book to a tv series. But why would they create a new comic book series just to keep the same changes? If there's something that should be regarded as the comic book equivalent of DuckTales, that's the regular Uncle Scrooge series.
