I have a new favorite Easter-related Disney Duck story: A Páscoa É Nossa (Easter Is Ours), which I read in German as Die Oster-Schokoblasen (The Easter Chocolate Bubbles). Here's the plot (spoiler alert, natch): Daisy resents how much Scrooge is charging for chocolate Easter eggs, and organizes folks to make their own. Scrooge snoops, accidentally spills soap into the mixture, and floating chocolate bubbles result, causing a bit of local chaos. Daisy discovers the culprit, thanks to an observation by one of the nieces, and leads the women in an attack on Scrooge....
I like the active roles of Daisy, AMJ 1 and the women in this one. It's not the only Brazilian story which I appreciate for its treatment of female characters. I also liked Comment Obtenir une Augmentation (Direitos E Deveres), where Daisy supports Miss Quackfaster when she decides to go on strike. And then there was the Brazilian "New Daisy" series--which mostly is completely outdated, as it depended on people being surprised or bothered that a female would, say, learn self-defense, or be a cop or a forest ranger.
But on the subject of Easter-related stories...do other people have favorites? Most of the stories I've read don't do anything for me. Either they involve the Easter Bunny, a character I just don't like to have interacting with the Ducks, or more often they are adventures/capers that happen to involve an Easter egg of some sort. Often, incidentally, in European stories this is an egg or egg-shaped object decorated in a way unfamiliar to Americans: with ribbon quadrisecting it vertically and tied into a bow on the top. Even Barks' Easter story refers to a tradition I have never experienced: an Easter parade that's an actual parade led by someone costumed as the Easter Bunny (as opposed to the "Easter parade" of New York City, which was just people on the sidewalks in all their Easter finery). Was such an Easter parade ever really a thing? And then there's the truly awful Easter Basketcase by Daan Jippes, wherein Donald goes all psychopathic-mysogynist-ranting-supervillain (see review by GeoX!).
Easter has many fewer handles for Disney comics storytelling than does Christmas or Halloween, of course. The non-religious side of the holiday comes down to spring, eggs and the Easter Bunny/Hare. A random question: has there ever been a story with an egg hunt at Grandma's farm? (Aside from the recent Geradts one-pager with Donald and Della hunting for Easter eggs, which might take place at the farm.) That would seem to be a natural. You could imagine that being the stage for all sorts of finds that would lead to funny or adventurous plots. There's actually a Fallberg/Bradbury Chip 'n' Dale 4-pager, April Antics, where Chip and Dale ask Thumper to set up an egg hunt for them, which I rather like.
