Anyone know anything about the "X Mickey" graphic novels from Papercutz? Vol. 2 "X Mickey: In the Mirror" is on the Comiclist for this coming week, 4/6. A supernatural adventure, involving Pipwolf, a Goofy werewolf. Did anyone see vol. 1? Vol. 2 didn't appear on hex's list of Disney comics due out in April--maybe it wasn't in the April previews catalog?
Talking about the Previews catalog is always a bit confusing. The April catalog is listing comics that are going to be published in June. The X-Mickey one was listed in the January catalog.
Looks like Papercutz' X-Mickey is distributed to comic shops later than bookstores – I got my copy in the mail a week ago. Instead of repeating myself, you can find my thoughts on X-Mickey in a blogpost I made.

In French, I own and read the whole series. It's… weird… often very different from the rest of Disney comics… but the art can be awesome when it wants to.
Thanks for the responses! Your blogpost was very informative, hex. Clearly I need to frequent your blog. So, the art will be worth seeing, and the series-specific universe sounds fun. I'm worried about a comixology translation, though! I will await reviews.
A female character named "Manny"? That's quite odd. Though if they just wanted to change the first vowel in "Minnie," there aren't many good options. Mainie, Meany, Miney, Moany, Moony, Munny/Money....
So, the volumes in this Papercutz Disney GN series are all different. "Planes" I'm not interested in. And the "Minnie & Daisy: Best Friends Forever" will presumably be a collection of the comics of that title, which were aimed at, say, six- or seven-year-old girls. Now, whether the Inferno volume will be worth getting in order to get an uncut version of the art.... Again, my worry is about the translation. I agree with you that Dwight Decker did a fine job for Gemstone's cut version.
And thanks also, hex, for kindly clearing up my confusion about the Previews listings--I will pay attention from now on to which month they are predicting.

The Comixology translation is okay, but the thing is, the name are unchanged. This is why "Manny" is used as the Minnie lookalike's name; it's actually her Italian name, and it's meant to SOUND English, but from people who don't really KNOW English. The same goes for Pipwolf and Toppersby; their names don't make sense in English, because they're actually puns — "Pipwolf" is reminiscent of "Pippo", which is Goofy's Italian name; so he should be named Goofwolf; and Toppersby contains the syllable "Top", which is the beginning of the Italian for Mouse, like in TOPolino.
Yes, I got that "Pipwolf" must be the original name, from Pippo. Seemed strange to keep it in English translation. But "Goofwolf" is barely pronouceable; and wouldn't "Weregoof" be a more logical construction? And yes, they should definitely have renamed "Manny."
I think X-Mickey works fine as a series, but having one story as a standalone graphic novel like Papercutz do is a bit strange. We might get more in-between other titles in the series, but with the current release schedule it’s going to take years for new readers to get into the world of X-Mickey.
Also, I think the Papercutz books are overpriced. There are about 60 pages of comics inside and the paperback version is $7.99 and the hardcover $12.99. Compared to the amount of editorial work IDW put into its comics (tracking down sources, translation, coloring, proper lettering, new cover art) Papercutz don’t do much work on these books. The material they have used so far, including the upcoming Minnie&Daisy book, already exist ready for an English print. So it’s just a matter of licensing and putting it together for printing. They might do more work on the upcoming "Mickey’s Inferno" (I hope).

Weregoof I indeed considered. Or perhaps Wolfy; it's kinda generic, but it sounds a lot like “Goofy”. Oh, and let's not forget Toppersby, either - though his name does sound good anyway.

Upon our first German launch of X-Mickey (called Micky X here) Manny was called Ninni and Pipwolf Goowulf. Unfortunately, this series was aborted after 5 issues. Like PKNA, people said it was overpriced and since it was a bookstore product it didn't reach a lot of people.
Finally, many years later we did get a more extensive release in our LTB Premium series (which has also been printing Ultraheroes, PKNA, Mickey Mouse Mystery Magazine and Darkwing Duck & will be printing Casty's Darkenblot series soon). The translations were reworked and now Manny is called Missi (appropriate according to our editor-in-chief since she 'behaves like an old English Miss') and Pipwolf is indeed called Goofwolf.
Ideally, those names would have worked pretty well in English, I think.
You should get those digital downloads that were translated to english way back if you want more of the series, I think there were 20 or them or something like that.
Looks like we only got two books with X-Mickey in this series from Papercutz. X-Mickey #3 and Minnie and Daisy #3 (the 7th and 8th book in the "Disney Graphic Novels" series) was supposed to come out a few weeks ago. But pre-orders got canceled and Amazone etc. didn't update with a new date. So I sent a message to Papercutz on facebook asking about the series and they confirmed that it was cancelled.
It sounded like the entire series got cancelled, but I'm not sure if that includes the upcoming volumes of "Disney Great Parodies" that is a part of the "Disney Graphic Novels" series too (no idea why they went for this confusing double-numbering...). Planetary Wars is still listed on Amazon to be released next week. So I guess we'll see then.
This listing for "Disney Great Parodies #3: Dracula" had popped up on Amazon some time ago and is currently scheduled for April 24th. I have no idea if that's still on the table or not.
I didn't even know about the Planetary Wars book until now. I think these just keep getting lost in the shuffle between all the IDW and Fantagraphics releases.
The cover for Planetary Wars is shown on Papercutz' own webpage, but they still haven't removed X-Mickey #3 from there ...so I don't think we can use the fact that it is listed there to say if it's going to be relesed or not.
