The translated Disney Masters books have always featured this kind of "translations", followed by all kinds of justifications about why they're actually a good thing and why you shouldn't want something more accurate to what was originally written. So yeah, if you want to read the actual stories the origial writers did, don't buy these books, you're not their audience. And yeah, that extra line about Dante does feel like it takes away some of the grandeur of that panel. (Full disclosure, though; I don't have the "Ice Sword Saga" books myself, as I was never the biggest fan of those stories.) Maybe the line was added to make Goofy feel more humorously "goofy", the way he usually speaks and acts in American cartoons and comics. But if I remember correctly, a Goofy that's 100% true to those characteristics wasn't the point of De Vita's "Ice Sword Saga" anyway.
It's weird -- I have seen small add-on comments like this in other dialogue too, and in some cases assumed they were added in translation. But to actually draw in entire new speech bubbles to add such side remarks...? I'm sorry, but that's going too far. There can be many reasons for modifying dialogue, but the dialogue should at least adhere to the originally drawn speech bubbles. I hadn't expected this in a collectors-aimed series published by Fantagraphics.
