With 2 versions of the Disney Masters Box sets. I am concerned they are testing the waters for which package the customers prefer, and will dump one over the other for later volumes. I don't know which set to settle on.
With the Carl Barks library I wish they would settle into releasing each box set that matches the released singles for that same year (like their other releases)
Just stop buying single books and buy boxsets, like I do, I sold 9 single books I had after a year of selling it, misc books being released I think is better than the books that are gonna be in the boxset the same year, for example I never bought a gottfredson single books, why would I if it is gonna be in boxset in half a year? I dont really care about boxsets, only reason I buy them is book in a boxset is (almost always) in mint condition.

That would be fine IF Fantagraphics had released a schedule of future releases of boxed sets, and which volumes would be inside them. But we don't know that all volumes will be inside boxes, as there was never any formal announcement of such. Furthermore, there is no guarantee that This Barks series will even run to the end of Barks' work. There never is, even when long-running, well-financed publishing firms are the publishers. Add to those problems, which make me paranoid of missing one or more issues, I am at an age when my peers are dying off, and I don't have any guarantee of lasting long enough to buy all the boxed sets by the time they are released, or to enjoy the books inside them very long. So, I'd rather buy the individual book, and have it for 1 to 4 or 5 years longer than I would waiting for it to finally end up in a box. Why can't Fantagraphics just make the boxes available separately, if they want to keep up the haphazard, arbitrary and late scheduling of boxed set releasing?
I m pretty sure everything will be in boxsets, since 4 are out so far chronologically and they are doing the same with lots of other similar series of theirs. Personally I feel the need to get all those single books, that have come out (last single book I got was terror of the beagle boys) , but with all the other stuff I buy and a hassle of finding someone to buy these after I get the same in a box, I m just gonna wait for boxsets. As I said, I only buy them because single books dont come in perfect shape and I m kind of a mint freak.
I love those covers, especially the one for Mickey Mouse The Greatest Adventures.
Considering that I intend to own the complete FantaGraphics Gottfredson library, the only appeal of this book seems to be that the stories that have already been published in said library will be presented in standard comic book size and in color. Not sure I'd necessarily want to plonk down more money for that. Was this book meant to appeal to collectors who don't plan on buying the Gottfredson library? I wonder how large that audience is. The book's fairly expensive, so it's obviously not for the kids' market. It's also not clearly labeled as part of the "Disney Masters" series.
Greatest Adventures will reprint strips in color at a much larger size than what was seen in the FGL set. This is especially great for the earliest stories, like "Mickey Mouse in Death Valley", where detail was lost being printed so small. It's a worthy addition if you're a big fan of the strip.
I think the reason why the Carl Barks boxsets take so long to come out is because of the fact that the volumes are being published out of order. With the exception of the Christmas boxset, each of them contain two consecutively numbered volumes of the series. Which makes sense because once you've bought them all and line them up on a shelf, everything will be in chronological order. Since the Gottfredson and Rosa books have been published in chronological order from the start, they're able to get the boxsets of those out right away.
What I have no idea about is how they intend for Disney Masters to work since there's really no chronological order to that at all.
Bingo. It's our equivalent to Egmont's Hall of Fame and Italy's I Maestri Disney, with editorial materials picked up from other series as well (Italy's Tesori; earlier Gemstone books).

I wish they would have told us that The Christmas Box Set was NOT part of the regular series, and that those 2 volumes would be available in two other box sets, in their proper order. I had NEVER heard that ALL the volumes would eventually be included in boxed sets, and after seeing The Christmas Set, I assumed that what few box sets would come out would be random combinations, NOT in chronological order. Otherwise, I'd have waited and just bought the box sets. I do not appreciate that information not being easily available.

Just found these box sets even existed just recently after finishing my Carl Barks Library set published back in the 80's. I instantly had the bug again to collect the Don Rosa books as box sets to go with my prior books. Sad to find out that the Don Rosa Vols 1&2 box set were already out of print. The rest I could get so I simply used Amazon to buy them. Seems scalpers have turned up the heat on the supply of existing box sets with prices between 350 and 700 dollars per set. Surprising with the availability of in print volumes to go inside new boxes. A bit of a buzz kill for me....feels like the old Barks library thing again. So I asked Fantagraphics via email if they had plans to republish replacement sets. Their reply yesterday...........
'We're sorry, but there is no waiting list that we can sign you up for. We do not have an actual date planned for the re-printed edition of this boxed set. However, if you only want to read the books, those volumes are still available.
Thank you for writing. '
Looks like I need to scrape the internet to find one when I can.
I presume you are talking about price of boxsets that are not out of print? Those that are available can all be found on book depository where I bought them for 50-70 dollars. It would be quite odd if they dont reprint the first rosa box and mickey sundays box, since barks books are in their third print and these have never been reprinted, personally I know about a dozen collectors that havent bought these in time.
I just bought the 3 Don Rosa sets I could get. Should be seeing them arrive this week sometime from Amazon. And yes....I too missed the first box set. I'd say anybody who reads this thread send Fantagraphics a reprint request and show them there is a demand out there with collectors.
