Well! That's certainly interesting news. This will be the second time WDC&S is renamed, after Gemstone renamed it "Walt Disney Comics", which was continued until IDW. I'm glad to see those Disney Literature Parody volumes, I always enjoy stories of that nature. I'm also glad to see that their publishing "All of Scrooge's Millions" in physical form. I had wanted to read those before, but I wasn't sure it was worth it to buy them since they were digital and rather short. Anyway, it's definitely good that the comics have returned at last.
The solicitation says this issue is part one of a four-part miniseries, and in this part one we get the stories of his first four millions. So the whole four-part miniseries will have room for at least 16 millions-stories.
Reading it again, yes that's actually what it say. But the parts are 27+25+34+24=110 pages, and I don't think it's very likely we'll get that in a $3.99 issue.
WAIT A SECOND. What the hell does it MEAN to "reboot" WDC? I mean, I'm glad they're continuing the numbering and all, but still: WHAT? This looks VERY strange to me. Also, are they REALLY jettisoning regular U$ comics in favor of that insipid friggin' "First Millions" series? Weird and disappointing.

What don't you like about the "First Millions" series? I can't comment on them, personally, as I have not read them, I'm just curious. And their probably not getting rid of the Uncle Scrooge line permanently, as "First Millions" won't go on forever. As deb said earlier, it'll probably be like when they temporarily replace Mickey Mouse with Cartoon Shorts and Donald Duck with Donald Quest. At least, I hope it's not permanent, anyway.

To be fair, I've only read the first few FM stories, on Comixology, so they could get better, but I dunno. The ones I read weren't, like, cosmically terrible, but they were pretty mediocre. Granted, these'll have better scripts, which'll pep them up a little, but it seems like a strange decision in any event. I mean, that "Donald Quest" miniseries wasn't good, but you can see how the concept would appeal, and the art was okay. But who could possibly have been clamoring for these...?
Going over the order codes to prepare my order for this month I noticed something that is good news in my opinion. Not 100% confirmed but it looks like:
- Uncle Scrooge: My First Millions #1 does not have a cover B variant, just a regular and retailer incentive - DuckTales #13 just have A and B covers, no RI like it used to have - Giant Halloween Hex only have one cover variant
- Disney Comics and Stories #1 only have one cover variant
Just noting that while these are grouped under "September solicitations," the two Dark Horse parody volumes are predicted to be in shops in October and November, respectively.
"Walt Disney's Comics and Stories becomes Disney Comics and Stories" ..so they are changing the title too – and "Continuing from the Walt Disney's Comics and Stories legacy numbering #744" so they are going to have double numbering ..or continuing from #744 (that hasn't been announced yet)? Confusing. And I'm sad IDW have to use cheap tricks like this to try to boost the sales. It's completely unnecessary to start a #1 in the middle of their own run of WDC&S!
I'm glad the Halloween Hex is back, and with the next story with Magica's family! Good news.
I read the line about the WDC numbering as "continuing with the WDCS legacy numbering and as such numbered 744 on the inside cover," that is, this issue will be 744. WDC 743 was solicited for July, and in that quarterly scheme, 744 would have been due out in October.
Donald & Mickey 3 (Treasure Menace in Venice) was this Monday on Comiclist's releases list for next week (June 27), but has now vanished from that list. If they're going to get caught up by September, that means Donald & Mickey 3 & 4, WDC 742 & 743, Uncle Scrooge 36-40, and Showcase 3-6 would need to come out. We'll see how much of that actually appears over the next two to three months. There's a lot I'm looking forward to in that bunch of promised issues!
And I'm also glad that we'll see the third of the "Magica's family" trilogy!
If the "reboot" of Disney's Comics and Stories means that it's going back to being a monthly series, then I'm all for it. If not, then there's no reason to care.
Apparently, having a giant #1 on the cover is how you sell comics in this day and age in this country which I feel like is the primary reason why we're even getting this Scrooge's Millions story since that gives them an excuse to slap a #1 on that as well. Heck, that's probably the reason why Donald and Mickey and Walt Disney Showcase existed before being slowly forgotten about. They're also giving the Tangled comic a reset even when issue 2 literally just came out last week.
I get that this is IDW's attempt to drive up sales but this has got to be confusing to people who aren't in the know about everything. Had WDC&S, Donald and Mickey and Showcase not been constantly delayed, we probably would've still been getting the same amount of content had WDC&S, Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck still been kept as monthly titles.
Well...I haven't seen the sales numbers, so hell, maybe it actually works. Seems weird to me, though: you'd think people would long have realized by now the hollowness of constant renumbering. Wasn't that more a nineties thing?
I mean, if it works, I'll roll with it, but I just can't imagine that it's anything but a very, very short-term panacea.

In terms of whether this practice is current or passé:
The two superheroes whose comics I buy are Squirrel Girl and Ms. Marvel. They are in a team-up series this summer, a four-issue miniseries, and EVERY ISSUE OF THIS MINISERIES IS A #1!! Each issue has its own subtitle, so that makes it OK, I guess? Yeesh.
Squirrel Girl actually joked about it when Marvel rebooted all its numbering in the title's first year of publication, 2015: "only our second #1 this year!" or the like. So maybe they'll have some self-aware humor about this miniseries numbering....
Glad to see Moby Dick in English. I believe I have a French copy of that story, but reading it in English must be easier! Besides, (spoiler) the story does not involve any real hunting so it won't feel uncomfortable to read.

True, only now I realized it! Yes, Artibani did a great job with this parody, and Mottura of course went beyond himself. I am curious to read their recent parody of Fritz Lang's Metropolis with Mickey. (I own it, but yet not found the time to read it, as well as Vitaliano-Mottura's On the Road.)
I also advocated in this forum for Radice-Turconi's Treasure Island, so I am happy to see that it will find its way in the American market.
Enna-Celoni's Doctor Jekill and Mister Hyde (featuring Mickey in the role of the former and Donald as the latter!) also would deserve to be published. Their Dracula was ok too (no Duckula of course, that was already done : the vampire is the phantom blot!) I did not read their Frankestein.
As far as I have seen, the "new parodies" are good in general, even those who tribute other comics rather than novels and movies. Opinion coming from someone who never liked the traditional Italian parodies.
