Hi. I'm doing a project of sorts where Castle McDuck figures. I'm trying to figure out the correct placement of the McDuck graveyard in relation to the castle. I thought this might be considered relevant enough for this thread.
Okay, so in Barks' The Old Castle's Secret, we see these panels:
I'll refer to the side with the front gate the South side. From this panel, it appears that the moat is located on the West side of the castle, with the nephews running counter-clockwise to the gate. This will be relevant later.
In these panels, it appears that the nephews are heading south from the gate, and then sees the graveyard to the left of them, which would place the graveyard South-East of the castle.
Next up, these panels are from Rosa's The Last of the Clan McDuck:
Here, we see that the moat from Barks' story is in between the castle and the graveyard, which would place it on the West side of the Castle. Of couse, this could be another moat, maybe on the East side, which would then be consistent with what we saw before.
This panel is from The New Laird of Castle McDuck. We can see the graveyard behind Scrooge to his right-hand side, which means it's once again South-East of the castle.
In The Billionaire of Dismal Downs we once again see that the graveyard is place South-East of the castle.
So it seems we can firmly say that South-East is where it's at. But then Rosa's A Letter From Home gives us this:
Hmm... In the panel on top, you can see the graveyard in between Louie's face and Scrooge's hat. Also note the moat on the West side of the castle. And in the two bottom panels, the graveyard is clearly to the left of the Ducks. All of this points to a West-placement.
Later in the same story:
This looks like West of the castle once again.
Finally, these panels show us the graveyard's relation to the same moat as in The Last of the Clan McDuck, which I'm sure Rosa intended to be the same moat as the one in Barks' story.
I started reading Duck comics around the time A Letter From Home was released, so I read that story long before the others. Therefore, in my head, the graveyard has always been placed West of the castle... However, it seems that most everything else points to a East - South-Eatern placement...
