I wonder whether Rosa would be OK with Arpin Lusène being gay? Is there any indication of his orientation?
I'm glad we're finally tackling this subject in a way, as I've begun to assert more asexuality more recently and how this is reflected in my relationship with Disney comics. Sexuality in Disney is a subject all its own, and its general tendency to stay away from certain limits was very comforting at that age. I was always confused by Rosa's insistence to give Goldie BEWBS, which seems to inch much closer towards furry fandom than funny animal comics -- and I'm firmly on the side of the latter. Anthropomorphized ducks are still ducks, AKA birds. They lay eggs, for crying out loud. (I mean, how else do you explain all those sets of twins and triplets?)
While I'm not a fan of revisionism as far as the characters are concerned (it feels weird to lay down new lore for a series that's been around for 90 years), there's no harm in mindless speculation.
I like the idea that Ms. Quackfaster is lesbian and Gladstone as pan, but Gyro is definitely straight (maybe a little on the autism spectrum, but that's a whole other topic). Magica is interesting, seeing how Barks envisioned her as this sexy Italian lady -- she's not averse to using feminine charms where necessary, is she? The Rodolfo case is a red herring with regards to her sexuality, I think. But then, I even have difficulty pinning down her age, let alone any other details.
Other characters that come to mind: I'm fairly sure that Kolik from the Tamers of Non-Human Threats is lesbian, or else Boysenberry the mechanic. Given the science-fiction vibe in those stories (as well as in the futuristic Duck Avenger series), you'd expect it to be more open and accepted, compared to the semi-1950s Duckburg.
Maybe Madame Triple-X as well, in that Jessica Rabbit ("I'm not bad, I was just drawn that way") kind of way. That men are attracted to her doesn't mean she's attracted to them -- the Tumblr Side of Fandom seems to have interpreted this as asexuality, which, fine. If anyone's asexual, I'd sooner expect it to be Rumpus McFowl or Gus Goose, but who knows. Or Jubal Pomp, given his friendship with the rather more obsessive Brigitta MacBridge.
I can't think of any gay characters. Maybe Butch? He had something going on with Mickey, alright. Oh what the heck, maybe Dewey in the future.
Speculation is fun!
