Just recently I had the opportunity to read a comic I had never read or heard of before, The Chips Are Flying. (Scrooge McDuck Wiki link: scrooge-mcduck.fandom.com/wiki/The_Chips_Are_Flying ) Overall, I'd probably describe it as a pretty mediocre story. It has a pretty basic plot and doesn't do anything interesting with its characters. What interests me most about it is its cast of characters, which is quite... interesting,
We start out with Chip 'n' Dale in the lead, which is simple enough. They notice a circus train nearby and go to visit it, which is also simple enough. In a twist, which, for me, as someone who has never read a story like this before, felt wild, none other than Dumbo and Timothy Mouse emerge from the train. I thought that was weird. It's not a crossover I wanted, but I was aware that Dumbo had crossed-over with many other Disney characters in comics, so it didn't surprise me too much. Also of note, Chip 'n' Dale could fit into the Dumbo Universe fairly easily. I wouldn't say it's particularly jarring.
Not long later, we meet our villain, who turns out to be the Wicked Witch from Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. This could also be seen as weird, but I don't mind it too much. Even Barks used the character (or a pretty close lookalike) in his Golden Christmas Tree story.
The part of this crossover story I find most jarring, pointless, and, as the title of this thread suggests, crazy, is the appearance of Bambi. Bambi. He comes pretty much out of nowhere and adds nothing to the story other than a few extra panels. Chip, Dale, Timothy, Dumbo, and the Wicked Witch is already a somewhat crazy crossover, but Bambi?!? He doesn't even look like the Bambi of the films. He might as well just be a generic deer. I have no idea why he would be in there.
Anyways, this is the first "crazy crossover comic" like this I've read. I have read stories like 80 is Prachtig! which feature a bunch of characters in end scenes or even scattered throughout the story, but to see all of these characters interacting and, with the exception of the witch, treating each other like friends, is just weird to me. I especially find the parts with Bambi weird, as they add little to nothing to the story and feel particularly jarring as Bambi is definitely more of a "real animal" than Dumbo, Timothy, Chip, or Dale, yet they are all able to communicate with each other verbally.
My question to you is this: What is the craziest Disney crossover comic you've read? Which crossovers do you feel just didn't fit or make no sense? I know there are quite a few of these comics out there, so I'm sure some of you have some ideas about which ones were craziest or just flat out worst. Which crossovers were just so bad or made so little sense? Also, do you have any wacky crossover stories that you actually like? Any stories where characters from different Disney films meet that you actually appreciate and feel did a good job with both the crossover and the story?
