Something that was started by the scanlating group The Feathery Society. Which coincidentally is the name of this forum. And they focused on Brazilian material. Which coincidentally this forum represents in its use of Fethry as icons in the profiles. And whom always posted stories related to concepts I'd be discussing. Complete coincidence, I tell you!
The tree is in need of scans for references for the further family we see mentioned below on the "Missing" line, and being redrawn to, well, not be as sketchy. Shows an interesting contrast in Carioca stories- the characters created by Brazil all look like stereotypes of Brazilian culture and tend to have "Zé" in their name, the ones created by the Netherlands look (to me at least) more like Mexican stereotypes and have more Spanish-sounding names.
Managed to find a scan of #595, so here's Chico Penacho. Couldn't find scans of either 513 or 495, which I'd like to if only to learn the proper context behind Papanatas and Zico.
EDIT: Hold it, hold it, found 495
Here's cousin Zico. He doesn't seem to have any traits in particular. I'm looking for 513 now.
EDIT EDIT:
And here we go, scan quality is less than ideal but here it is
Also doesn't seem to have any remarkable traits- a kind hard-working dentist, Zé's uncle. Only point of interest is that he doesn't live in Rio, but in... "Piracicamonhangaba". Say THAT five times fast! As far as I can tell that just seems to be a joke name for "isolated place far away".
Anyways, thanks for the reminders- I tend to forget to count the Jorge Kato Carioca stories since they're mostly just remakes, but there's still original efforts trying to make their own tales, so it's not good on my part to ignore this.
So now we can add Caballero Carioca from “Legend of the Three Caballeros” as Josué Carioca's father, no?
Is Caballero Carioca supposed to be Zé's great-grandfather? I thought he lived at the same time as Don Dugo, who is from the 16th century
Yeah, no. I posted this way back when we all began getting the episodes, one by one, through less-than-legal means — I'd only watched the first two at the time, and so I thought that Clinton Coot had been the pre-Donald member of the original Caballeros team, as opposed to himself being an heir to the real Duck Caballero.
On the blog of Lucila Saindeberg, daughter of the comic writer Ivan Saidenberg, there is Zé Cariboca (Caribe+Carioca), an ancestor from the times of pirates (1789)
In the story "Nos Tempos de D. João Charuto ", has a guard called Zé Carioca, Dom João Charuto is a parody of Dom João VI, king of Portugal, in 1808, he and the court escaped to Brazil, forming the United Kingdom of Portugal, Brazil and the Algarves (1815–1822).
Zé de Itu, is a cousin of the city of Itu in São Paulo, where they say that everything is bigger (even his cousin is big), the name comes from the Tupi, which means great waterfall
I really like those Dutch stories! It's a shame that Brazillian editors kinda censored them here in Brazil. They said those stories does not "feels" like José Carioca. That's nonsense, because they look just like the earlier stories made by Paul Murry!
