Since I've seen some on this specific site complain how DuckTales 2017 handled references, how would you all handle them if you manned the show? Given lots of reboots reference older material, it is hard to avoid it here so how would you users handle the references on that show?

I say this as the Forum's resident DT17-enjoyer (enough so that the negativity about it sort of burnt m out on this place, though there were other reasons for my lessened activity), but mostly one wishes the references had been… less shallow? More concerned with the substance of what was being referenced, rather than "oh it's [Name]". A lot of these references are random name-drops in contexts which don't actually make any sense with the background of the original thing, e.g. "the Lost Key of Tralla La" and "Conqueror of Plain Awful" and so on, and that just gets old very quickly.
Something similar to the legend of the three caballeros . That show was full of references from both old cartoons and comics . But they use references to create storylines or jokes . One of my favorites was when they included Clinton coot who’s Donald great grand father form his father’s mother side . They had a whole storyline just for it . The bear who Donald has always fought with in cartoons and comics was there as well ( he was a dead carpet but became alive later and joined the gang . Ari the red bird was there from the beginning and had a role . The first episode started with a scene that was exactly written in the same way Donald’s comics about his endless jobs were written What’s good in these references is even if you didn’t get them it’s fine as they are used to advance the plot But of course these kind of references need someone who’s not only creative but a fan of the main characters and put efforts in writing them but in ducktales somehow they had darkwing and other characters who have nothing to with the duck family
Launchpad in the old darkwing is totally different from the one in ducktales . Different universes . and darkwing still has nothing to do with the duck family in any story whether it’s cartoon or comics . He never was in old ducktales . He never was in Donald Duck comics It was clear the dt17 team cared more about having references for the sake of it and it seemed they wanted to use dt17 to do a darkwing reboot which I’m glad they didn’t get to do after the way they dealed with the duck family

They just needed to use the references and material from the comics in the right way, and not just give references to keep the viewership especially nostalgic. Honestly, even though Ducktales 2017 did a bad job with the Disney comic book references, they did a good job with the relationship between Donald Duck and Gladstone Gander in the episode "The House of the Lucky Gander!" The same goes for the Disney Afternoon references. They mostly changed everything so that the originals are mostly either in the past or with just the name, which doesn't work right.
