For Whom The Doorbell Tolls (Hemingway Collection)

I received the Hemingway collection for Christmas. 

Despite not being the world's biggest Hemingway fan (my tastes lend themselves more to Shakespeare and chivalric romances and my English teacher in high school despised the man but I did his short stories), I enjoyed the adaptations and art in the volume. (I am glad they didn't try to adapt "Hills Like White Elephants." I don't think my heart could take Mickey and Minnie discussing that topic!)

My favorite stories were Sahara (the ambiguous adaptation of "Francis Macomber"), Bad Boys (A touching use of villains), and For Whom the Doorbell Tolls (Perhaps, it is slightly self-indulgent and sentimental with a slice of It's a Wonderful Life but the story works.)

P.S.: I played Hemingway for a school video project.

Hemingway stories have so much doom and gloom in them that I can't imagine myself reading some of these stories with these characters and not cringing a bit.

I will admit though that having Scrooge McDuck star in The Old Man and the Sea is a perfect fit.

I didn't really get the point of this project at first, but the intention becomes clear once they're all read in a single sitting. (Similar to how "Zodiac Stone" works best if you're reading them in quick, weekly succession.) It's just a storytelling exercise for this pool of writers and cartoonists. They're not really "ducks and mice in Hemingway stories", they're just "ducks and mice in Hemingway inspired/adjacent stories". One I worked on was "inspired" by a Hemingway story about bullfighting and it became about Arthurian jousting. I quite liked the whole thing.
