hello! new user on the forum here. i'm primarily interested in duck comics (from what i can tell at a glance, most of us here are, LOL!) but I'd like to start reading about the mouse himself. are there any particular Mickey comics that you'd consider the best to get started with?
apologies if this belongs in a different, preexisting "starter comics" thread i'm unaware of- and a belated 'happy new year' to you all!
Gottfredson is as core Mickey as you can get, and pretty much everything non-Gottfredson you can find is going to be heavily inspired by his work. His work is a lot more available now than it used to be, too.
Imo the best option if you are English-only reader is Casty's Disney Masters volume. You will get two great modern stories with many elements of classic Mickey comics that will make you want to explore Mouseverse. Trust me, Casty is fundamental part of my love of comics - when you see passion in art, you get passionate about it.
