I just discovered that apparently, the Italian version of the Junior Woodchuck's Grand Mogul is called "Bertie McGoose." Does anyone know where that particular name first appeared?
The earliest mention of the name I know is in inducks.org/story.php?c=I+GM++++1-3 “Due mogol un cuore”, but i cant be sure since i dont have the two Minni stories from earlier.
However I don't know why the character is considered separated from the classic Grand Mogul.
Well, it is not. In this story, he is unnamed and appears in very few panels. The name comes from this story and was used mainly in the GM magazine. In the last years, the name resurfaced in Italian stories, but the INDUCKS division is kind of "stupid" because, in the recent Italian stories, it lists Grand Mogul when the name Bertie is not mentioned, even if it's clear that it's supposed to be the same character.
However, I did some research on the whole matter a while ago, and you could read it here.

Ooh, that's helpful! Nice start. In fact, I'm trying to know whether this character has ever been given a proper identity in French, but it's kinda hard to find out. That would require to know of a story in which the phrase "Bertie McGoose" appears AND that has been translated in French.

In virtually every Italian story (at least, the ones after the name was given) the Grand Mogul is Bertie. The design is always the same. But, apparently, he is indexed as Bertie only when his name is mentioned within the story.
You can clearly see by yourself that this is the same character as this. Yet, they seem to be two different guys for the INDUCKS (even though in the first panel of story n. 1, you can unmistakably read "McGoose" on his mailbox...)
