Kind of a weird topic, but has anyone else found that the paper IDW uses in their monthly comics (covers and inside pages) is a little less forgiving then previous Disney comics?
I feel like I have to be very careful with my comics, moreso than usual.
Some of the earlier IDW issues used a thicker paper on the cover – but checking the recent ones it seems that both the ones being printed in the USA and in Korea uses the same paper on the cover and the inside. They could probably be a bit more durable using a thicker cover paper.
It’s not really been a problem for me, but I’m used to read my comics carefully. The paper and colors in the IDW comics are still way better than what I’m used to in the Norwegian weekly Disney comics! They seem to use the cheapest paper they can get. And you need to wash your hands before reading them (no joke), just a tiny little layer of fat on your fingers and you’ll end up loosening the ink and having permanent fingermarks on the cover. Just by reading it normally..
Admittedly, I'm already very careful - almost OCD about my comics.
Part of the challenge is any damage before I get the comics. I find that I have to make sure I give the comics a thorough once over before purchasing because I've noticed that the covers especially are pretty unforgiving.
It's not a major problem, just more noticeable than past publishing efforts.

I know what you mean, about comics in general. I get all my comics in the mail (picking them up at a LCS on a regular basis is impractical) and it's anxiety-provoking to see the little dents, folds, blemishes etc. that are there even before you've opened them. I suppose picking them up in at a LCS gives you a little more control, but even there, you're limited to the copies the store has on the shelves.

I know what you mean. The paper of the Dutch weeklies has gotten progressively thinner over the years, to the point where they're extremely fragile. Even the thinnest Gladstone II paper is comparatively sturdy.
