And the madness continues! Still no Van Horn, and only Italian Disney comics in Uncle Scrooge and Disney Comics & Stories. Not to mention more Italian comics in Disney Masters too! Why are editors obsessed with this Italian kiddie stuff??

Um...I believe it is the Italians who have taken over direct control of the American Disney comics, since the folks who produced them until mid-2018 were let go.
The Disney Masters, that's a different story. They are doing some volumes of non-Italian "masters," including American and Dutch creators (see the upcoming volume featuring Mau & Bas Heymans).

Wait. That first one. Are we going to get a third translation of Quackarol? …Really? So New IDW wants to measure up to Geo-blinkin'-X in the Dickens translation business?!
Yeah, I was actually writing a comment on the question of the Quackarol translation when my connection to Feathery briefly failed. I wondered whether they would just use the Quackarol translation, or come up with a new, equally lame one.
Not IDW, though--it's Dark Horse, so I guess it's in their "Disney Classics" series of literary parodies along with Treasure Island et al. Though it doesn't make any difference, since the Dark Horse Classics are also translated by Erin Brady.

I’m not sure why Van Horn’s work isn’t being used more at IDW, although I have to wonder if being “off model” might be a part of it, or that they want to focus on more recent Italian work. As for Disney Masters, personally I have liked the stories that have been chosen. I think the editors do a good job of balancing more “traditional” stories like the Jippes and Murry material with the unusual stories like “Money Rocket”, “The Delta Dimension” and “King of the Golden River”. It’s not easy to try to choose the best stories from decades’ worth of material and make everyone happy, but so far, I think David Gerstein and company have succeeded in presenting an interesting mix. I like what Fantagraphics is doing with these books better than the hit-or-miss material coming out of IDW lately. I wish the people publishing the books at IDW cared enough to notice the difference between quality material and cranked out product.
They had an all-Mickey issue of Disney Comics & Stories, and now there's an all-Donald one. (That's assuming Donald is also in story #2 with Gyro--the solicitation makes it sound as if he is in all the stories.) Makes one wonder why they didn't just have a "Donald & Mickey" title, instead of the pared-down version of the "Walt Disney's Comics & Stories" title. They certainly didn't keep the WDCS title for tradition's sake, since they didn't keep the title intact and they rebooted the numbering.

Who knows? Maybe the name “Disney” sells more than Mickey Mouse or Donald Duck?

I think the Italians now running IDW Disney want to publish only Italian stories and turn American Disney comics into an offshoot of Italian Disney comics. This goes along with their annoying decision to use Italian coloring on the money bin, Grandma's hair, etc. Their attitude towards the American Disney comics tradition is "delete and replace."

They must be aware of the online criticism of their new books, as they say things like “It's another fun-filled issue guaranteed to please even the pickiest of fans!” in their solicitation copy.

I think it's a more savings policy, the Italian stories cost less to the IDW and therefore they try to use them more, they don't recolor them to keep the costs low and maximize the gains. Classic company policy by managers who aim to save on production costs.
Do we have actual sources and evidence of "Italians are now running IDW Disney" or is this just about to become another big bad boogieman?
Because things aren't going well in Italy either, with further and further restrictions and censorship of stories, and I doubt they'd be doing so of their own choosing. You guys sure it doesn't make more sense for someone at Disney to be pushing this out of a "well Italy's had the most success so easier to just have everyone conform to them while we have them conform to us" instead of the immediate kinda-xenophobic "those damn Italians"?
