So they got Warren Spector, the director behind the very successful Epic Mickey video game, to write this arc.
The general storyline he came up with for this DuckTales comic would have been a great plot for a video game but for an ongoing comic series, it would've gotten old very quickly.
…that doesn't mean it was, of course (two pages for Colchis, but two entire issues on freakin' Rippan Taro? YOU IDIOTS), but that doesn't mean the concept itself was damning. And while some of the way it failed can be attributed to Spector's lack of experience with comic-writing… as I said above, I think the way it had to be rushed to a conclusion towards the end must also have been involved.
They did improve the art for DuckTales when issue 4 came around but it was too late at that point as Boom was about to lose the Disney license.
The final two issues were made into a crossover with Darkwing which was terrible and had actually been published without approval from Disney which is why the omnibus collection later omitted it.
Now the Rescue Rangers comic, from what I've read of it at least, seems pretty good and if there any reason for one to pick up IDW's reprint series, it would be for that.
