I have just finished reading my copy of Club Donald Duck in the mail! It was worse than I feared! I still haven't decided if it's worse than Young Donald Duck, though.
Worth noting is that the Duck Avenger does not appear in Club Donald Duck. However, I notice that there's a 2 on the bottom of the spine of the attached image above. This leads me to expect that there is indeed a "Club Donald Duck 2" in the works. Dear God, why? Club Donald Duck gets a sequel but Firefly only got one season. This is the darkest timeline.
Oh dear, a puppy-Pluto. So what do we think, is present day Pluto so ancient that he could drop dead any second or is he just the latest in a long line of Plutos?

Well, they're not the first ones to do that. Puppy Pluto appeared in the This Is Your Life, Donald Duck comic in a flashback to Donald's childhood, so there is a precedent from that, not to mention the many Disney Babies comics and books. In defense of This is Your Life's timeline, Mickey and Goofy don't look much older in the flashback than they do today (though they do dress differently), so I reckon they could have been teenagers in the flashback, lessening the amount of time between the flashback and the story's present day.

This is very sad. I mean, in his original appearance Pluto was pretty old (and had a different name, Rover), so maybe this is Pluto Sr.? In a similar vein that old Dippy Dawg could be Goofy's relative, if you squint a little.
But what's Gyro doing there? I thought he'd be much older than all the others.

I mean there is a canonical Pluto, Jr. in some shorts who looks nearly identical to his sire. Also, an episode of House of Mouse did imply that the original Dippy Dawg is Goofy's father, as a canine bearing the original Dippy Dawg design from Mickey's Revue is referred to as Goofy's "Pop." As for Gyro, I always figured he was Donald's age or younger. Doesn't Donald say something about "when we were kids" in Gyro's Invention? Once again, even if Gyro being older does make more sense, Club Donald Duck isn't the first to do this. I'm pretty sure there are at least a handful of Brazilian stories showing Gyro and Donald as children.
I imagine Gyro as being around 5-7 years older than Donald. I don't like that he appears in Club Donald Duck like this. But I'm not super-bothered, since Club Donald Duck is streets away from my head-canon.
I have not seen The Picnic, in which Rover first appeared, nor read Pluto the Pup, where Pluto was introduced. Based on nothing, I could accept Rover as Pluto's father. Rover was owned by Minnie. The title Pluto the Pup implies that Pluto is merely a puppy when this story is set. ...Does any of that work?

There are few stories of Gyro and Donald as children such as "O Amuleto da Sorte".

Ah, yes. That was one of the stories I was thinking of actually.

There will be a second "season" of Young Donald Duck... the preview is clear as day. Sorry I don't have a picture but it will be in issue #5 of the German series "LTB Premium Plus" which started with the first eight YDD chapters.

So both the Club and Young series will be running parallel with each other? Interesting.
I appear to have become somewhat of a collector of Donald Duck origin stories lately, so I guess I'll have to buy these sequels as well... even though I expect the quality of storytelling will be very low.
