“ A “Darkwing Duck” reboot is in early development at Disney Plus, Variety has learned from sources.
No writer is currently attached to the project, but sources say it will be executive produced by Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, James Weaver, and Alex McAtee of Point Grey Pictures. McAtee will oversee the project for the company.
Reps for Point Grey did not immediately respond to Variety‘s request for comment. Disney declined to comment.
The original “Darkwing Duck” was created by Tad Stones and ran from 1991-1992 for three seasons and 91 episodes. It originally aired on The Disney Channel and ABC while also airing in syndication. The series followed the titular duck superhero, who lived an ordinary suburban life under the secret identity of Drake Mallard. He is assisted in his crime fighting by his sidekick and pilot Launchpad McQuack. He is also sometimes assisted by his adopted daughter, Gosalyn. The show featured the voices of Jim Cummings as Darkwing Duck, Christine Cavanaugh as Gosalyn, and Terry McGovern as Launchpad.”
Well, that's interesting! Though personally I'd almost rather have someone put Aaron Sparrow and James Silvani on salary to write all the Darkwing comics stories they had imagined. Guess I'll have to go to Dylan Horrocks' Hicksville to read those comics....
I swear, if we got to have Angones and friends scuttle the chance for a good Ducktales cartoon in favour of setting up the Darkwing Duck show they really wanted to make, only for the actual Darkwing reboot to be done by other people and not even use the same continuity, I'll laugh and laugh

So far the sources for that are very vague. The irony is that when Tad Stones said that the Darkwing show was separate from original Ducktales, most fans rejected that statement. And now, just when fans of the new show were looking forward to seeing a new Darkwing show connected to Ducktales 17, there's a chance we get a show that's even *more* disconected from its contemporany Ducktales than the original!
If it's the case of a third version of Darkwing, what are the odds that Jim Cummings and Terry McGovern reprise their roles?

The thing about the DuckTales 2017 continuity is that they blocked themselves off from using any of the original show's classic villains save for NegaDuck, Taurus Bulba and Steelbeak. (And FOWL but it seems like they're being built up as Scrooge's major enemies at the moment.) Unless they bring them back using the dangerously unstable reality device again which I can't see that fitting into the narrative too well.
New villains are cool and all but would it really feel like a Darkwing Duck series if Megavolt wasn't in it?

I mean, they could just actually make new versions of Megavolt and Co. Like introducing Drake's fellow college student Elmo Sputterspark.

From the insufferable pothead that brought you such classics as Sausage party and...and...nothing else. Remember when he attempted to reboot Green Hornet? Yeah no one else does either.

Why is it that everyone is attributing the show solely to Seth Rogen? It's being treated as though he's the main force behind the show, but there doesn't seem to be anything to actually suggest that. He's one of four executive producers, and isn't credited as being in charge in any manner more significant than the others.
I agree that he's an odd name to have on there, but as far as I can see, it seems to be Alex McAtee that's in charge.
Resident autistic, diabetic duck fan.
I love hearing about bizarre/obscure Disney works - recommendations welcome!
Long story short seems even he doesn't know what's going on so either it's still in development, or he may not be returning as Darkwing Duck (or even Negaduck).
