Hope this is a good idea for both a fun, headcanon thread and a serious, "encyclopedic" thread. What are our favorite Duck/Mouse characters' middle names? You can cite either real middle names from comics, cartoons, etc. or come up with middle names of your own! Middle names don't really mean whole lot, I guess. Knowing someone's middle name (what comes between their first name and surname, at least in traditional American naming convention) is sometimes little more than fun trivia. Sometimes, a middle name can have some meaning. For example, me and all of my siblings received our middle names from family members while our first names were original. I know people whose middle names were chosen for their etymology and meaning and how it mixed with the etymology and meaning of their first name. So what are our Mouse and Duck pals' middle names? I'll start with my thoughts, but please feel free to share yours! PLEASE NOTE that some of the middle names I give are from official sources, but many are not. I want to be totally clear about that before someone cites this thread as a reference someday for these middle names. A lot of these are going to be totally made up by me or by other Feathery Society members. This is all in good fun!
Donald Duck's middle name is Fauntleroy, as per the cartoon Donald Gets Drafted. This is the only story that I know of that states Donald's middle name.
Mickey Mouse may have two official middle names. I've seen wikis for years say that Mickey's full name is Michael Theodore Mouse, but I'm not sure what the source for that is. Does anybody here know? On the other hand, the old short Symphony Hour calls Mickey "Maestro Michel Mouse" ("maestro" being a title, not a name), and the newer Paul Rudish short The Fancy Gentlemen apparently built upon this by referring to Mickey as Michel Francois Mouse. Since I know the source for the "Francois" middle name but do not know the source for "Theodore," I have adopted "Francois" as Mickey's middle name in my headcanon. Doesn't really fit him, but that's what makes it sort of funny!
Donald and Mickey are the only guys who I know of an official middle name for. Everything else here will just be speculation. If you all know of any official middle names, then please let me know! Grandma Duck's full name in my headcanon is Elvira Abigail Duck. Elvira was stated to be Grandma's name in W WDC 121-04 in 1950. The name was later popularized by Don Rosa and has, thanks to his work, become her "official" first name, I believe. However, there are apparently two or three Carl Fallberg stories from the 1950s which called her Abigail. I haven't personally read any of those stories, but I've decided to adopt "Abigail" as Elvira's middle name in my headcanon.
I have a couple of ideas for Uncle Scrooge's middle name. One of my favorite foreign names for Uncle Scrooge is his French name, Balthazar Picsou. I don't know why, but "Balthazar" just really seems to fit him. I have thus had Scrooge's full name be Scrooge Balthazar McDuck in my headcanon. However, I have read that Scottish tradition would have the eldest son be named after his paternal grandfather. I'm not sure if this is true or not, but if it is, then Scrooge and his paternal grandfather should have the same name. Now, Scrooge's paternal grandfather's name in my headcanon is Titus McDuck, taken from W DD 70-01. Titus and Scrooge are not the same name, so my explanation was that Scrooge's full name is Titus Scrooge McDuck and that, for whatever reason, he has always gone by his middle name. I also read that, in Scottish tradition, second sons are named after their maternal grandfather, eldest daughters are named after their maternal grandmothers, and second daughters are named after their paternal grandmothers. Obviously, it's possible that this was all made up and inaccurate, but if what I read is correct, then this affects the middle names of Scrooge's siblings. Scrooge and his siblings' paternal grandmother is, in Rosa's lore, Molly Mallard. "Molly" is sometimes a nickname for Margaret. Thus, I have assumed that her real name was Hortense Margaret Mallard and that her granddaughter (and Donald's mother) Hortense McDuck has either Margaret or Mallard as her middle name.
Della Duck's middle name in my headcanon is Thelma, taken from Carl Barks's first Duck family tree and Mark Worden's rendition of it. Fethry Duck's middle name in my headcanon is Loon, taken from his mother's middle name in Don Rosa's Duck family tree. Abner Duck's full name in my headcanon is Abner Whitewater Duck, as I don't have any problem with viewing Whitewater as an actual name instead of just a nickname. John D. Rockerduck's middle name is Davison, and I'm actually not sure if that was ever stated in a story or not. It's implied by his being named after John Davison Rockefeller.
That's about all that I have for headcanon middle names. What middle names do these guys have in your headcanon? Any official middle names that I didn't mention here? I'm really curious to know if there are any other instances where a character was given an official full name/middle name, not counting Goofy's messy names, of course.
