First: Peg Leg Pete will turn 100 next year! The first character in Disney comics to do so. Outside of Disney comics, he isn't a huge character so I doubt the Disney Company is planning any big celebrations, but he is pretty important within the world of Disney comics, so publishers must already be at least thinking about how to celebrate this big anniversary. I wonder what they (specifically Egmont and the Italian Disney comic publisher) will cook up!
Then the big one in 2028: Mickey's 100th anniversary. This will be huge. If the Disney Company ever decides to make a feature length Mickey Mouse movie, this will be the time. (I have always believed that a movie adaptation of Gottfredson "The Seven Ghosts" could be the perfect Mickey Mouse movie!) As for comics, I forsee several new comics created for this event and many anniversary books reprinting classics. (A small wish: even though Don Rosa has been retired for close to two decades, I believe he is still up for creating covers/illustrations and nearly did a new one for Scrooge's 75th anniversary two years ago. So what publishers should do is get him to create a cover or a pin-up illustration for his favourite Mickey comic, "Mickey Mouse outwits the Phantom Blot" and include it one of the special anniversary books.)
Then in 2030: the 100th anniversary of Disney comics. One way to celebrate this would be to create a sequel to "Lost on a Desert Island", in the same style as that very first Disney comic.
What are your thoughts? What do you think would be the best way to celebrate these events?
