Current events (both in France and the US) are not exactly rosy, to say the least... Which is precisely why we need to remain capable of appreciating moments of joy, even if they seem paltry compared to the dangers that loom ahead. Here's one of mine!

I'm delighted to announce that the latest issue of Picsou Magazine, out on newsstands today, contains a four-page comic strip, co-written by yours truly and my fellow freelance editor, the facetious Hugo Mathias! Four pages may not sound like much, but when you consider that France hasn't produced much of anything for a long time, it's actually a rare and precious opportunity. To top it all off, it's Emmanuele Baccinelli, well known to Topolino readers in Italy, who has lent his talents to our modest story. Colors were made by the no less prestigious Christian Lerolle, and the head of the French comic studio, Pierre Delort, is responsible for the lettering.

Of course, none of this would have been possible without Jean-Baptiste Roux (a.k.a. "Da Chief"), who finally gave in to the (gentle) pressure of us two rascals, and managed to find a few pennies in the piggy bank to produce this lil' Franco-Belgian-Italian tale.

It's quite something, you know, to have been able to play in that big Disney sandbox! I wish a happy 90th birthday to our favorite duck, who looks well set to entertain us for another nine decades!

Many congratulations, juicymcduck! (whose name we can now deduce from Inducks ). I have ordered my copy of Picsou 579 from French eBay (complete with Scrooge figure, since that's the only way I can get it at the moment). Love the cast of characters in your story! Short but packed! Here's hoping that it's not the only but the *first* of French-made stories you co-write. I'm also looking forward to all the Paco Rodriguez art in that issue and your interview of him. Nice to see that the Anti-gravity story is included--I have that in German and along with Himalayan Hideout it's one of my two favorite stories for Rodriguez's art--nice drawings of Duckburg from above.

My all-time second favorite Goofy story is French: Fantôme à tous les étages by Rodolphe Jacquette (Inducksers don't love the story as much as I do, but I find the ending *very* amusing), and so is my favorite Clarabelle story: Le soda se boit sec by Philippe Gasc. I'd love to see more French Duck stories, especially if you're on the writing team!

And yes, I'm delighted that the publication of this story (whose English title is A "Hole" Lot of Memories) coincides with that of several stories illustrated by Paco Rodriguez. He's an artist whose work I really appreciate, and it was I who originally urged my editor-in-chief to devote an issue of the magazine to him. For the occasion, I had the pleasure of translating three stories (including the oh-so-pretty Nibbling Gold).

Yay, you, for suggesting an issue devoted to Paco Rodriguez! Maybe this will be an inspiration to the folks at Fantagraphics for a future volume of Disney Masters . Personally, I pay more attention to story than to art and the list I keep of Disney comics stories I return to is therefore categorized by author, not by artist. But Paco Rodriguez is one of the very few artists whose art really stands out to me. I look forward to the Paco Rodriguez stories in this issue I haven't yet seen!

Your 2 story pages shown look very nice. I hope this story will be printed in "Donald Duck Weekblad", so I'll be able to read it. While I'm waiting for that (for a year or 2), I hope someone can e-mail me scans of the 4-pages from the Picsou book.

Thanks, Robb! These compliments from you, an established professional, are particularly heartwarming to me. I doubt "Donald Duck Weekblad" would publish that story, given that it was drawn in the Italian style, but who knows! I'd certainly be glad to see it elsewhere (Italy would be a logical choice, for starters, but it's up to them, really).

And yes, I would LOVE to write for Paco, and in fact, I have a story pitch that I *think* matches what he likes to draw to a T. But it's not for me to say, of course!

P.S. 2 Fun fact: the story includes a cameo by a certain character that was created by the Dutch in the 2010s for their Duck Quiz app. I think it's technically his first "real" appearance in a comic, because the other two times it happened, he was just redrawn in the place of another character in a pre-existing story.

I had the possibility to read the story myself and I genuinely liked it. Though only being 4-page-long, the rhythm is well balanced and it is a great celebrative story with cameos and references to classic stories. I have to compliment juicymcduck and I hope to be able to see more from him (and from France in general) in the future.

If anyone here is interested, juicymcduck and his co-writer, and also Italian artist Emmanuele Baccinelli (who provided effective artworks for this comics!), have agreed to answers some questions about the creation of A "Hole" Lot of Memories, also giving some insights about their role in the French magazines. I leave here the link to it, and I thank again all three authors for their availability.
