There is a story whose creators i don't know (but, judging from the drawing style, there is 99% a chance it was drawn by Tony Strobl). Donald is fed up with having to work for Scrooge for unbelievably many hours a day and earn only 20 dollars per week. So, he quits and submits applications to other jobs. The employers are all impressed by his CV and all promise to call him soon. In the end of the story, when nobody has called, Donald realizes his phone line is cut off because he hasn't paid the bill for three months, so he's forced to go back and beg his uncle, who accepts him back, but only with 15 dollars per week this time. I wanted to rip the magazine to shreds.
Many Italian stories have Scrooge have a problem (often a business scheme), so... - Donald offers a suggestion - Scrooge thinks the idea is awesome - Scrooge puts the idea into action - Business goes good - A random accident makes it go bad, or it had a flaw that Scrooge overlooked - Scrooge gets very angry and blames Donald for DARING giving him the idea, and violently chases him - Huey, Dewey and Louie often do nothing and just go "Heh, that's too bad for Uncka Donald"
I tend to find this mean-spirited and unfair. Even as a kid. Because of this, when I would go back to read the magazine again, I'll try to avoid even looking at the story.

Lots of Martina stories [defecate] on Donald, which is part of the reason Paperinik was made in first place.
That's interesting to know, Sirtao! It had never occurred to me that Paperinik might have come to be because Donald was treated so badly in the everyday Duckburg of the regular comics...particularly by Martina. I knew that Martina's Scrooge is one nasty guy!
He was treated so bad, kids would write to Topolino asking for him to win. They kept doing it until Donald turned to crime, won, and everybody as happy with that!
For some reason, I feel that stories written by Laura and Mark Shaw are far too hard on Donald. They always end up frustrating me more than entertaining me.
I hate stories where a bully beats up Donald for mediocre/unwarranted reasons and gets away with his crime without punishment, despite leaving him injured enough to stay at the hospital.
In fact, the most "payback" I remember was when an overly jealous guy beats up Donald because he thought he was trying to woo her... and he gets on an anger management course! No, what you need is not an anger management course: what you need is PRISON!!

…to an extent, "Raider of the Copper Hill" did seem a bit unfair to me. It was pretty clear in "Only a Poor Old Man" that Scrooge *had* kept the money from the copper mine. (For that matter, it was also clear that Scrooge knew what the terrain was worth when he bought it, but whatever)
No, what you need is not an anger management course: what you need is PRISON!!
I think your view on the matter is too simplistic. I could tell you a lot about that issue, but i don't want to be accused of spamming and get banned again.

Watching Matilda as a kid would always get me upset like that.
At least the story of "Matilda" makes it clear that what Ms Trunchbull does is wrong, awful and cruel, and that she is an enemy to be vanquished.
However, in those Donald stories, what those bullies do is shown as no big deal... and is treated as somehow "normal" that simply talking to some guy's girlfriend is enough to warrant serious physical violence.

Fair point. I'm not sure where the line lies for me.

I guess that sometimes, it is obvious that the universe itself is siding with the bullies and the awful thing happening to the hero is meant to be funny/just/logical... which is quite a bully thing to do.

Well, since you guys got off topic with Matilda... I think stories where bullies just receive a payback (be it prison or a good beating or another form of humiliation) are also unfair. People of that kind need help, just getting revenge against them makes those lost souls even more miserable.
