Don Rosa Library to be published in Italy

Three days ago Disney-Panini announced an upcoming Italian edition of the Don Rosa Library, and Don Rosa confirmed it on his Facebook page, adding that it will be a translation of the Fantagraphics version, even though it will have more pages than its American counterpart.

So, nine years after his retirement, we Italians will also finally have a complete Rosa collection, something that virtually ever other country (of those which regularly publish Disney comics) already has. Rosa will be the fourth author to have a complete collection in Italy, after Barks (2008), Gottfredson (2010) and Scarpa (2014); unlike the collections of those three authors, the Rosa collection will not be sold together with newspapers.

I'm not sure how much the above will interest the American (or, more generally, the non-Italian) audience, but it's a great news and I feel like it should be mentioned somewhere on this forum.

If they are, in fact, not faithful to the original, please do and let us know.

I'm quite sure SOMETHING will be lost in the translation by the simple language difference, but everything else is fair game.

Since the volumes will be that cheap, I suspect that they will not spend money in new translations and go with the old (very litteral) ones. XD

8,90€ isn't cheap, actually.

"I Grandi Classici" has 292 pages and costs 4,90€, for comparison.

American version cost 30 dollars (it's about 25 euros).
And "I Grandi Classici"  is published in A5 (14,5 x 19,5 cm), while Don Rosa Library in B5 (17 x 23,5 cm).

Probably not, since american translations of italian stories are rarely faithful to the original.

Two wrongs don't make one right, if the USA->ITA translations are wrong it must be addressed.

The Fantagraphic volumes are giant hardcover very fancy high-quality books! You can buy them even in Europe via amazon, and they are worth the price, believe me. Of course the Italian version, at that little price (9 euros!), will only take the content of those American volumes (Rosa writes a lot in them, he basically comments every single story and tells all his life and career in a certain detail), but not the sumptuous format.

I'll add that, in addition to the Italian version, the aforementioned message on Rosa's Facebook page also mentioned a Brazilian and Russian version, saying that these three versions "have either already started coming out or will be published soon". According to Inducks, the one who has already started is the Russian version (one volume so far, released on February 7, 2017), while the Brazilian version has yet to start, just like the Italian version.

If something will not be faithful to the original, I think pointing it out in this or related threads would be a good idea, though I don't see why we should assume it won't be faithful before it even starts.

By the way, I don't think "raking over the coals" would be the correct way of describe it, since a constructive criticism is not a bad thing.

I guess they will do the same thing they did with last year's version of "Life and Times" in two volumes (which marked the first time an Italian edition of any Rosa work has been supervised by Rosa himself), i.e. using the old translation as the base while making some changes to a few lines, colors and half-pages to fit Rosa's requests.
