Inducks says that Janet Gilbert wrote it, but the Journal de Mickey 2892 which published it lists the writer in the margin as Transgaard. (They agree on the artist, Bernado.) Can I safely assume that Inducks is correct and JM got it wrong on this one?
The Norwegian print also has Janet Gilbert cedited. The inducks data for modern D-coded stories are usually very accurate and can be trusted. The data is from compilation lists directly from Egmont (including English titles), then compared with printed credits and double-checked with a contact if they don't match.
I'm afraid the French printing was simply in error.
The original story, as transmitted internally among Egmont and other publishers, credits Gilbert—and it clearly READS and SOUNDS like one of hers.
Beagle Boys read a mystery novel featuring "Sheri Holmes," a modern female descendant of Sherlock, and decide to imitate the scheme pulled by the crooks in the novel. Nobody believes it's happening except Daisy, who's also a Sheri Holmes fan. This is some good stuff.
Thanks, both of you, for helpful responses! Yes, I thought it "felt" more like a Janet Gilbert story. The French dialogue doesn't mention the detective in the mystery novel at all--it just gives the author's name as "Irène Dupolair"-- so it's nice to be able to mentally insert the character of Sheri Holmes and to know that Daisy is a Sheri Holmes fan!
